I'm afraid your information is out of date Reb.

He was not shot in the back of the head at all as an expert showed.

Both policemen believed he was about to fire a shot-gun. First PC ***an fired – his vision had been drawn to where Mr Stanley carried the table leg. His bullet grazed a middle finger and struck his ring finger. Mr Stanley’s hand flew into the air and his head which had been turning toward both officers, suddenly flew back to the right again. The motion that catapulted Mr Stanley’s left hand into the air– an instinctive reaction to being shot in the hand – also creating a crumpling of his jacket, around his shoulders and neck.Almost simultaneously, Ch Insp Sharman fired – and the bullet struck on the left side of the head, just above the ear, and exited out of the right temple.Critically it also passed through the shoulder of the jacket before striking his head. From Prof Lewinski’s measurements, the angle of the bulletstrike also indicated the position of his body, in a classic boxer’s stance, side-on to Ch Insp Sharman. It was this bullet that was to cause virtually all of the controversy

And until Lewinski’s research, its passage was never fully known or understood. Now,through a process called ‘biodynamic and forensic examination’, which looks at human reaction to critical incidents which can be recreated in a computer recon struction, he determined that as the arm was flung into the air, creating the pucker in the jacket, it could be used to plot the trajectory of the bullet. Prof Lewinski explained: ‘The position of the jacket and the bullet hole in it and the passage of the bullet into Mr Stanley’s head help us plot its path and measure precisely what Mr Stanley’s body was doing.’ The entire sequence of events was measured at between 0.13 seconds and 0.17 seconds. He added: ‘The bullet hole was missed during the original forensic examination and investigation and it is so, so important. The positioning of the hole matches and reveals the hand and arm
reaction, followed by the head reaction

If the inquest lasted as long as the original incident, had the same confusion and gaps in the available information and was being forced to make a snap decision to avoid potential loss of life, then I think the inquest could reach a very different conclusion.

That is the luxury of an inquest, being able to sift through all the information gathered over the months or years since the incident. That is the same luxury that the officers didn't have and they had to make life or death decisions on the flawed information they were given.

All I am saying is that the officers had a huge responsibility and had to react to events unfolding right in front of them. They didn't have the opportunity to pull up a bean bag and talk it through. In situations like that, mistakes can be made, but there is no system that anyone knows of that can provide an totally infallible response to these situations and if you want to acknowledge the failures you also have to acknowledge the limitations.

I am on the phone and i articulated myself poorly. For some reason i couldn't think of a better way to day that he was facing slightly away from the officers. I understand the verdict that was returned inthe high court. The judge in that hearing conceded their account was not accurate. An open verdict is not vindication.

Are you under the impression that i am unaware of the timescales involved? These people are trained to follow protocol. These people failed to follow that protocol.

Dev ex copper believed police never did wrong.
All the young Brazilian friends are delighted that he was let board a crowded tube train before he was blown to bits. He would never have claimed such "fame if he had been apprehended crossing the street or on the footpath.

Everyone seem to concentrate on that incident, no one commented on what could well have been a very serious situation after John Wilson went into "play" with Neil Lennon. I suppose that policeman that refused to look at Lennon or the near by crowd was not aware of the numerous death threats against N. Lennon the previous four or five months. If N Lennon had received a serious bullet or stab wound how would the police explained the conduct of the policeman who nearest the incident.

Is this an impassioned plea for the Police at Tynecastle to be armed with sub-machine guns?

It was believed (argued) that he was "facing away", that argument has been destroyed by the scientific evidence Reb.

All the evidence points to the fact that he had adopted a "shooting" stance, hence his injury.

What surprises me about this is the length of time it took to properly examine the detail of the victim's movement and trajectory of the bullet/s - of course, missing the bullet hole in the jacket in the original forensic examination seems almost criminally incompetent. I believe that in the US, following the Kennedy assassination in Dallas, in the 1960's, a lot of forensic resources were employed in looking at theories in relation to body movement on impact and bullet trajectories, so the expertise has been developing there over many years.

See Eddie V about this. He'll have all the answers.

Kennedy was wearing a rigid back brace that day. He had a bad back from an impact on his PT boat during WW2. The back brace apparently caused Kennedy to move in a fashion that didn't help quell the conspiracy theories

Some suspicious types would have us believe the bullet hole was missed on purpose but it is quite incredible.

If you read the PDF I supplied you will see it was mere good luck that the expert came forward in the first place and proved the two cops were innocent.

This case is a perfect example of why I am so cynical, it stinks to high heaven of people attempting to get a pay off, to hear Harry Stanley's family talk you'd think butter would not melt in his mouth and the media tried to portray him as some poor Joe Dokes innocently going about his business which was very far from the truth.

They have not been proven innocent at all. That is not true. The verdict is open.

I'll have a read of that pdf later. I am out now so csnt get to it but my understanding was that the ballistics said he did't get shot in the head. That is diffetent to saying he was not turned away.

The police claim vindication in the matter but that is not what they got, the death is still recorded as suspicious.
