As much as I like the lad,hes just not good enough for what we need, especially if we get some new faces in. Hes a trier, but thats about it. 3 milion and Ill drive him myself!
I agree , There seems to be a large Mackie fan club but i just don't see it myself . Everyone loves a trier and thats what he is, not much more though. If we get players in this could happen.
I think the lad deserves at least until the end of the season to prove himself after his injury problems. I like his direct approach and reliability. To my mind he's a similar player to James Milner and he's holding down a place in a top team.
When was the last time we recieved an offer of this size for a decent squad player? Never before! Great work by Warnock bringing him here for a reported £250-500.000. Think many of our back-up players has some value, expecially for Championship clubs. Promotion ain't bad on your CV.
The lad has only been back in action for a few games. I agree his performances thus far have not looked like those of a quality PL player but as others have said he deserves his chance and there is still the possibility he will blossom at this level particularly if midfield tactics become more flexible (as they need to). On the other hand our squad is already way too big and tough choices will be needed if several new players are inbound.
Based on where he came from his wages are probably low and half of what Vine's on! So unless Sparky brings in 5-6 mid./attackers, which i highly doubt, it doesn't make sense letting him go now. If he stay injury free his value will only go up so i say keep him
give the boy a chance. 4 years ago he was playing non league footie. he has developed under NW and lets see what Mark Hughes can teach him. Don't forget he is still early to mid 20's and been out for a while. At least he is a trier unlike others we appar to have on the pay roll and he is likely to nick a goal or two.
Surely we need to get shot of Dave , Hulse, Vine , Hall etc etc before we part with a player we might need this season?
The simple question that need to be asked is, can we get a similar/better player for £2m? And the answer is a big NO! Ninj I agree very much with what you say. As Jason Roberts so well put it; "As a striker, to work for Hughes was amazing." And for someone as eager to learn as Jamie it could be a match made in heaven.
I'd sell him for anything above £3m. Don't think he has the skill to feature regularly under MH. Warnock's sacking probably hurt him the most, he's the typical warnock style player. All legs no head. We all love him because he tries hard bur give me a strop who can win us games any day!
It's worth keeping him just so Hughes can take Adel to one side, point to Mackie, and say "try as hard as that kid".... Mackie's learning all the time, and getiing better all the time. Now is definately NOT the time to get rid of him, especially when we have so much dead wood on the books.
Very true. He tries hard and has pace and strength but lacks technique. Excellent Championship player.
Think we should play the same game on this as everyone else is with us - reject bids, drag feet, see where we stand in a couple of weeks. Beginning to doubt whether we will see many deals made until much closer to the end of the window. Still in the phase of clubs and agents fishing to maximise transfer fees and wages/ deals. What irritates me is clubs like Spurs with very good players not getting a game but 'Arry refusing to let them go. I can understand it, just don't like it.
"My question is are we a better side with Mackie in it this season, the stats say no" Stats are stats and be interrupreted any way you want to. Bottom line Mackie has scored two goals this year which I could never see Dave / Vine /HH scoring as involved a sprint and a finish. Vine would never have got there, neither would HH (no disresepct intended but he seems more of a headers / buffer of the ball type player) Boothroyd (not sure - erring on the generous side) whereas Dave would probably have got there and either hit the ball over the bar, over the main stadium, hit someone in the stand with the ball. DJC...he hasn't really done a lot so far although I except he has ben injured. I would rather have a team of players willing to give blood sweat and tears for the shirt rather than those that sit on their ever increasing fat arses picking up wages for doing and contributing nothing. I am also hoping Borrowdale manages to leave this window as he once said that he was enjoying first team footie again at Barnet and that playing was what he wanted to do rather than waste aay in the reseves.
Makcie is the essence of the warnock era for me. Great at championship level, gives 100% for the club and was fantastic for QPR. But does not have the capacity to be at the highest level. We have won one game ( stoke ) that Mackie has started this year. £3m offer and he will be gone , good business for the club. As for his goals , poor back pass and bundled finish, would not say class, workman like , like the rest of his game.
What we need to do between us all, is to invent a machine that merges footballers. We then stick Mackie and Taarabt in our secret machine and 'Hey Presto!' Our own version of Messi, but in full size form.
Cheeky East London CNuts Mackie worth 6 million at least at today rates ... Of course according to some knobs on here he is only championship quality. Of course we should keep him!!!! He is QPR and got us up here so loads could then slag our championship players off You fickle idiots
