Sky Sports understands Manchester United have rejected a bid from Newcastle for teenage starlet Ravel Morrison.

Morrison seems set to leave Old Trafford after failing to agree a new deal with his current contract due to expire in the summer.

The Red Devils are thought to be open to the idea of offloading Morrison despite the fact the winger is regarded as one of the best players to emerge from their famed youth academy

A number of clubs at home and abroad have been alerted to Morrison's possible availability and Newcastle have tried to steal a march on their rivals by making an offer for the 18-year-old.

Even though Morrison could leave on a free transfer in the summer United would be entitled to compensation in the region of £300,000 for development costs as he is aged under 24.

Newcastle are thought to have made a bid in the region of the fee their rivals would be entitled to in compensation, but the Old Trafford side have rejected it out of hand

Not sure we need the hassle. Buying from Man U is notoriously a bad thing to do for english clubs. He tends to keep those worth it. We've had a mixed bag from them in the past.

Obertan is living, breathing, ball-losing proof. Although Danny Simpson would disagree.

    For 300k?

Why not? If he's still the **** he is now in a few months and doesn't appreciate what he has , hoy him in the reserves squad.

Worth the risk if 300k is what they want.

Gillespie, Butt, Rossi, Simpson, Obertan. Simpson has been an excellent signing. Obertan the jury is out. (trying to be kind) Rossi we never got to find out. Butt was not the best overall even if he did have his moments. Smith is a tale of two halfs. Great in the championship. Gillespie was not the most consistent or an easy one to manage but you'd struggle to say he was not good for us. We were a top 2 side at the time afterall and he had some great games. (cough barca cough..............)

    This.

They're clearly desperate for midfielders as they've dragged Scholes out of retirement, as far as I know this lad doesn't even make the bench for them. We've got Vuckic, Abeid and Ferguson as promising young midfielders (I assume this lad's a midfielder...) trying to break through. Do we really need another one? Especially when the the other one is, by all accounts, a complete waster.

My mate who supports Man united is gutted he going, but this guy also thinks France and Portugal are 2 of the best teams in the world. Apparently France is full of GREAT players.

If he's as talented as we're hearing, he's worth the risk. Difference this time is Fergie doesnt want to sell him.

Worst comes to worst, his attitude is too much and we stick him in the reserves. Someone will take him if he's so talented.

I'm starting to find that Douglas is basically using his Twitter to sell his paper. Anyone else agree?

They all do it. If they told you everything on twitter no one would buy it and he'd be out of a job.

I remember him popping up about other stories that were unsubstantiated as well and I would not be surprised if the "full story" he was pushing was two random lines.

Ravel Morrison is EXTREMELY talented! And for around £500,000?! That's a bargain. He could play in the Prem now. One of England's best hopes. His best position is CAM, but can play CM, on either wing and even as a striker. If it doesn't work out then £500,000 isn't a big loss. But if it works out....
