We were linked with Olic a little while ago. Macheda looked a good prospect a few years ago when he scored a couple of important goals for United, but I've not seen much since that convinces me either
Anthony Stokes adds to his goal tally with a hat trick for Celtic last night. What are we waiting for?
He does look like a decent shout, C58. It all seems very quiet on the transfer front for us, doesn't it?
I read today that we have 'joined the clubs' watching Fleetwood's £1m rated Jamie Vardy - a 25 year old striker/winger with an impressive goalscoring record (close to a goal a game this season), albeit at non-league level. The extent of what I know about Vardy is contained in the paragraph above. I make no comment on whether at £1m he would be a good or bad thing. I also see on the Newcastle board that there are rumours linking us to their right back Danny Simpson. He'd be decent, although not necessarily the best that we could get. I think I prefer the rumours linking us to the lad at Palace who is out of contract in the summer. He's also being linked with Newcastle (as a replacement for Simpson if we take him) and, I suspect, half the Premier league. He'd be a good signing though, as Valjing (I think) pointed out some time back.
I'd go for Mladen Petric of HSV if we were going to replace Johnson, although his age is 31. Not sure about his injury history, but has always impressed me with his all action style and goals. My shopping list at the moment would be. Matias Suarez of Anderlecht (Johnston) Onuoha of Man City (Right-Back) Alex of Chelsea (Hughes) Boateng of Dnipro (Etuhu) Dries Mertens of PSV (Murphy)
Definitely, definitely Onuoha. He ticks all the boxes - decent age, done well in the PL, right price (probably).
I can see Onuoha going to QPR now that Hughes is there. I too am disappointed that there seems to be little speculation and even less actual signings. Why do most managers leave it so late?!
From what I have heard, we're aiming to sign 4 players at this point in time. Maxi Lopez (Almost a done deal), Jamie Vardy, Danny Simpson and a CM that hasn't been pin-pointed yet.
I heard Maxi Lopez wanted to stay in Italy as AC were interested. Plus there was the factor of us not budging on our £6 million offer, to which they wanted 10.
Apparently the deal is a 500k loan for 6 months with an option to buy for 7.5 at the end of the loan. AC's option on Lopez has expired anyway.
I'm not too keen on this Lopez guy, doesn't seem to have a great goalscoring record. A loan with option to buy is definitely the best bet.
There was already an interview with posted in one of these threads detailing the Gignac and Lopez deals (sort of). Here's the interview: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11681/7415366/Jol-plays-down-Maxi-talk
Jol has put Riise the younger on the market. Guess this is him freeing up a little more cash to bring in a (more than one?) younger player that he can nurture.
Playing his cards close to his chest Jol refuses to comment on reports that the club have rejected Blackburn's bid for he AJ. He said, " There is always speculation in the paper and that will come back every day or every week. That is not my problem. I feel if people want to speculate about that maybe there is not a lot to write about. But there is not a lot of movement, I will tell you that. There is nothing going on at the moment."
