Preview. After a impressive 1-0 victory against Manchester City in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg, Liverpool go into this league game with Stoke City hoping to keep their unbeaten run at home going. Stoke will provide a stern test of this Liverpool team with Tony Pulis continuing to do a good job at Stoke. Current Form. Liverpool go into this game on the back of three wins, two draws and a defeat in our past six games in all competitions. Manchester City 0-1 Liverpool. (Carling Cup) Liverpool 5-1 Oldham Athletic. (F.A Cup) Manchester City 3-0 Liverpool. (League) Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle United. (League) Liverpool 1-1 Blackburn Rovers. (League) Wigan Athletic 0-0 Liverpool. (League) As we can see, Liverpool have won their last two league games. A comprehensive 5-1 victory in the F.A Cup over Oldham was a good boost for confidence going into the Carling Cup game and Liverpool ran out 1-0 winners at Manchester City in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final. This will give Liverpool confidence going into a difficult game with Stoke. Stoke City go into this game on the back of three wins, two draws and a deafet in Stoke's past six games in all competitions. Exactly the same form in the past six games as Liverpool! Gillingham 1-3 Stoke City. (F.A Cup) Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Stoke City. (League) Stoke City 2-2 Wigan Athletic. (League) Stoke City 0-0 Aston Villa. (League) Manchester City 3-0 Stoke City. (League) Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Stoke City. (League) Stoke will gain confidence from thier past six games. Taking away the 3-0 away loss at City, Stoke haven't lost and picked up 11 points from a possible 18. Good wins at Blackburn and Wolves have kept up Stoke's push in the top half of the table. They currently sit 8th with 29 points from 20 games. If we take a closer look at both teams form in their last 6 games, you can see similarities. Both Stoke & Liverpool have three wins, two draws and a deafet from their past 6 games, both teams have won their past two games and both have only lost 1 game. 3-0 away at City! The formbook seems to predict a tight game! Injury News. Liverpool. Jay Spearing- Hamstring Injury. Lucas Leiva- ACL Knee Injury. Luis Suarez is serving a suspension and is therefore unavailable. I think we'll win this well. I'm going 3-0. Stevie, Bellers and Maxi. Don't know why - just got a feeling! Nice work on the thread once again.
Crouch vs Carroll Wonder if Pulis would notice if we did a nifty swap before the game. I know I'm going against the grain but I absolutely love what Pulis has done with Stoke Gets naff all credit for it in the "we love sexy football" media but for me Stoke are one of the biggest success stories of the Prem era. An excellently well run club, developed their ground at the right time (unlike some), bought and sold well and stuck two fingers up to the establishment by playing the type of passionate, no nonsense football they needed to in order to survive against the big boys. Good luck to them for the rest of the season but I fancy us to win this one in a tight, hard fought encounter. 3-1 in the end
My startin 11 would be Reina Jonno Skrtel Agger Enrique Adam Bellamy Gerrard Hendo Downing Carroll Suspect Dirk n Maxi will start though , possible for Hendo n Bellars
I think our back 5 has to be the same: ------------------------------------Reina--------------------------------------- Johnson------------Skrtle-------------------------Agger------------------Jose Maxi----------------Hendo------------------------Gerrard------------Downing ---------------------Carroll------------------------Bellamy--------------------- Attack them whilst making sure Carroll doesn't get isolated. We are missing a dm badly now. We need someone with the legs to cover Gerrard.
I can't see us getting anything out of this game. Pulis will set up for damage limitation as he always does against better teams. But it is a tactic which has never worked. If he had the guts to go for it, we'd still probably lose, but at least we'll spend some of the game in your half of the pitch. I'd be happy if we kept it to 2-0.
I'd like us to go wing backs again like at Everton, it worked really well. Sorenson Shotton woodgate shawcross huth wilson Pennant palacios etherington Walters Crouch Would like to play that team but i doubt pennant will start, sadly.
Pennant might play though, he did well against us last time if I remember right, always gets up for these games...
Pennant always plays his best games for us when the opposition fans are on his back. It's almost like they fire him up for him to shut them up. He will actually have a crack on goal instead of looking for the high ball into the box all the time. Hope we go to Anfield to have a go instead of sitting too deep.
Against City it was very similar to how Stoke played us in Sept. Peno in first half and spend the whole 2nd half with 9 men in the box. Hopefully stoke will be more open to us this time.
Early goal for us would be nice, settles the nerves Suspect Jay may not be risked, on form if fit he should be in for Adam, who keeps givin the ball away Hendo startin to look a good player, Downing been better last 3/4 games Suspect Dirk n Maxi will start as they didnt start v Citeh Think Bellers will be on bench, but Id like him to start as he's class Not sure whether big Andy will start , bit hard to call.Think theres a possibility Stevie may start on bench too especially if Jay is fit Id like to see Aurelio on bench instead of 2 CBs ( Carra n Coates )
Think this will be a typical Liverpool home match. Gerrard to make the difference though: 1-0 Liverpool
Really dont care what the game is like at the moment, I think we just need a few wins to build our confidence and momentum.
I hope we can take advantage of your home form this season, but can't see us getting anything. Pool 2-0 Potters, Gerrard and Bellamy
