Steven Gerrard has today committed his long-term future to Liverpool by signing an extension to his contract with the Reds. The news completes a great 24 hours for the Anfield skipper, who signed his new deal at Melwood this afternoon after firing the winner in the first-leg of the Carling Cup semi-final at Manchester City last night. I'm very happy," said Gerrard today. "It's a very proud day for myself and my family. "It comes on the back of a fantastic team performance last night when we got the result we were looking for. Hopefully we can finish the job off in two weeks time and take all of our magnificent fans down to Wembley for a day out. "The contract extension coming the day after has been the icing on the cake so it has been a perfect 24 hours. "This is the club I love and is the club I have supported since I was a young boy. I am living the dream as the captain of one of the biggest clubs in the world. I love coming to work every day and the experiences I have had since I was eight years of age and first signed for the club, I wouldn't change them for the world. To extend that and to hopefully have some more good times in a red shirt is what I want. "There will be more highs and lows, there's no doubt about it as that's part and parcel of being a football player at a top club. The important thing is that you react well to the lows and experience more of the highs. I'm confident moving forward that the club is going in the right direction. We've got a fantastic team, we've got the right owners in place and the right team behind our team, so I'm really confident we'll have more good experiences in the future." Gerrard has also agreed to take up an ambassadorial role at Liverpool Football Club once his illustrious playing career draws to a close. "It's really flattering for me that the club have offered me the chance to stay when I eventually hang my boots up," he added. "Hopefully that will be in many years to come because I want to play for as long as I can. "I'll know myself when it's time to hang my boots up and then hopefully I can stay involved with the club and set the right example for youngsters coming through." Ay fantastic news! I'm surprised about how easily he has just started performing again. Those half chances created by the team are starting to go in. I actually thought for a while he was finished. He isn't. Cannot wait to see Lucas hold the midfield together and Stevie and Bellamy feed Suarez!
I was going to post a thread yesterday about the Steven Gerrard doubts which were raised when he was injured, concerns about his future and performances, just didn't get round to it. I think the appearances he has had have just proved those people wrong, whether the concerns were from critics or genuine constructive criticism.
Anyone else think he should celebrate by cutting Caroll's hair? I'm almost positive this is contributing to his poor form.
I heard he is fooking hard, is this true? So Caroll is kind of like a backwards torres, torres needed the long blond locks to get the goals in, Carroll needs a wee trim.
I reckon Andy's a sort of Samson in reverse- get rid of the long hair and he'll be a revelation. Worked for Lucas.
slappy, samson, sampsonite... swanson! Ya, let's all hope so! Although there were some times yesterday that his touch was just pub league standard. I think Hansen had a laugh at him on one after the game ( Bellamy played it into him, running at the ball, he managed to practically pass it to Gael clichy.....who was standing off Bellamy! )
don't get me started on Carroll's donkey tail. I was praying he'd turn a new leaf in the new year - cut his hair, make a real effort, a chance to turn things around and really make a name for himself. Pity really.
Happy Days... Brilliant news and I would have thought pretty big news in terms of LFC and Prem football in general so I couldn't help but chuckle that talkshite are still going on about the Johnson tackle (and they were going on about it at half 7 this morning...then at lunchtime...still going on about it on my journey home) and threw this news in about Stevie then went straight back to banging on about GJ ****ing muppets are soooo lazy when it comes to stuff like this. I haven't heard them actually talk about the match all day. Well done to SG on another great performance last night and great to have another reminder of just how good he is The brightest part of a rather dark few weeks for us is getting our captain back playing and looking fit and healthy (touch wood)...
Steven Gerrard is the only player in history to score in the FA Cup, League Cup, Uefa Cup and Champions League finals.
This. Running out of excuses to stand up for him now. Good news about Gerrard, bumped into my mate in ASDA and he told me about this.
That calls for a celebration MNS
