Yeah, it fits really well into the area. I dont understand what people have against it. But, people do. Looks an awful lot better than the old Victoria House! People were trying to save that from demolition for christ sake!

I've not seen it in person but I really want to, it looks stunning. Amazing that it is still under construction after all this time <laugh>

Not the best picture, but the Franco-Prussian war monument in the Rheinland (looking out over the newly conquered Alsace) is pretty cool.

People hate it because it is a source of misery for most of their friends. I know far too many people who work for Aviva!

Everyone in York knows someone that works for Aviva! <laugh> I know 4 people, and none of them know each other. That shows how big of an employer it is. The building they have at Monks Cross looks alright

I'd love to visit Hong Kong. Sinagpore also seems like a good place to visit.

For me though, the best skyline is New York, with the WTC in the background

This building lasted a whopping 13 years before being demolished <laugh>. It's one of my favourite scrapers (NY again), but it was demolished in 1910 because it didn't take up enough ground area for its height and real estate prices were rocketing around Wall Street at the time.

Quite incredible that such a gorgeous building can be built, and then 13 years later just removed and replaced.

I love pictures of New York from around that period!

Looks and odd building like. It seems rather, thin?

Yeah that was its downfall unfortunately. I think it's what makes it so unique and representative of the city's character in that era: reach for the sky and make it new, exciting and unique. The fact that it was demolished so quickly is just as representative of the booming, constantly renewing city it was then too.

I have some fantastic books on New York and tons of old pictures; totally agree with you, photos from that era are great.

If there was a time I could back too. Would have to be around that era. Maybe up untill the 1930's. I have a fascination of the Mafia around that time too. Have like a bookcase full of books on the USA from that period. Its just so interesting, and there is such a diverse range of topics to look into aswell.

Yeah same, some time between 1880 and 1930 would be fantastic. Would also love to see the Five Points around the time when the tenements were starting to shoot up.

Good old Chrysler Building in the background there. Infinitely aesthetically superior to the Empire State in my opinion; shame it doesn't get half the fame.

How can anyone not think thats not awesome?

Aye, it would be so interesting. Not just on the buildings. But the actual people living there. Its one thing that fascinates me such much about the Titanic. I love reading into the passengers on the ship, and where they were from. Where they going etc.

Neuschwanstein Castle looks incredible. I always hoped it was some secluded glory that is owned by a mad scientist or something but as it turns out it's a pretty popular tourist destination. Rather gutting.

Who designed the building you posted just above that? And where is it? Looks sort of like a Gehry design to me.

Yeah kind of a pity it has turned into a bit of a tourist destination, it would be awesome going through the Bavarian moutains and just seeing it. To make matter worse the Disney castle was modelled on it also. :(

It is Frank Gehry, called the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Gehry must of liked it very much also because he designed the Los Angeles Opera House in a very similar style. Liked seeing that you have got his very first skyscraper in the OP as well. <ok>
