Spurs come into the game in third place in the table with 45 points, while Wolves are in 16th place with 17 points. This will be the 97th time the two teams have met. The first meeting came on 1st September 1908 at White Hart Lane in what was Tottenham Hotspur's first ever Football League match in the old Second Division. Spurs got their League career off to a flying start with a 3-0 win over FA Cup holders Wolves, who were one of the 12 original members of the Football League. Vivian Woodward, fresh from captaining the Great Britain football team to the Olympic Games gold medal, scored Spurs' first Football League goal and he added a second before Tom Morris finished the scoring. Wolves won the return fixture in December 1-0 but Spurs still won promotion to the First Division at the first time of asking. It would be another 12 years before the two teams met again and Spurs did the 'double' over Wolves in the 1919-20 season with a 4-2 home win and a 3-1 away win. Those four points helped Spurs regain their Top Flight status as Second Division Champions after it had been taken away in contraversial circumstances. The 1921 FA Cup Final at Stamford Bridge was contested between Wolves and Spurs and was won with a Jimmy Dimmock goal. The clubs met eight times in the Second Division between 1928 and 1932 with Spurs winning 3 games, Wolves winning 4 and one match drawn. The first meeting in the First Division came in August 1933 with Spurs beating Wolves 4-0. Wolves won the return fixture 1-0 and the following season Spurs won 3-1 at home and Wolves won at Molineux 6-2. The clubs met twice during World War Two with Wolves winning both matches. Spurs regained their Top Flight status in 1950-51 after finishing the previous season as Division Two Champions and became Division One Champions for the first time. The two games against Wolves that season resulted in home wins for both teams, Wolves winning 2-1 at Molineux and Spurs winning 2-1 at White Hart Lane. Spurs and Wolves continued to meet in Division One up to the 1983-84 season and altogether 62 matches were played at that level with Spurs winning 30 games, Wolves winning 19 games and 13 games drawn. A second meeting in the FA Cup came in January 1969 with Spurs winning the Fourth Round fixture 2-1 at the Lane. The teams were paired together in the 1981 FA Cup Semi-Final with the first game at Hillsborough drawn 2-2 with Steve Archibald and Glenn Hoddle scoring for Spurs. The replay at Highbury was a comfortable 3-0 win for Spurs with goals from Garth Crooks (2) and Ricky Villa. Spurs went on to beat Manchester City in the Final. The last meeting in the FA Cup came in the Fourth Round in 1996 with Wolves drawing 1-1 at White Hart Lane but losing the replay at Molineux 2-0 with Spurs goals coming from Ronnie Rosenthal and Teddy Sheringham. The first all-English major European Cup Final came in 1972 between Spurs and Wolves in the UEFA Cup. Martin Chivers scored a brace at Molineux in a 2-1 win for Spurs and the return leg was drawn 1-1 at the Lane with Alan Mullery scoring. Wolves won the first encounter in the Football League Cup in 1969 1-0 and the teams also contested the 1972 Semi Final with Spurs winning away 2-1 with goals from John Pratt and Martin Peters while the return leg was drawn 2-2 with Martin Chivers and Martin Peters scoring. The teams met in the Premier League for the first time in December 2003 with Spurs winning 5-2 with goals from Robbie Keane (3), Fredi Kanoute and Stefan Dalmat. Spurs also won the away game 2-0 with goals from Keane and Jermain Defoe. Wolves won both Premier League matches in season 2009-10 1-0. Last season, Spurs won 3-1 at the Lane in September with goals from Rafael Van der Vaart (penalty), Roman Pavlyuchenko and Alan Hutton. Wolves goal was scored by Steven Fletcher. The away game at Molineux in March ended in a 3-3 draw with Jermain Defoe scoring twice and Pavlyuchenko getting the third and Wolves' Kevin Doyle grabbing a brace and Steven Fletcher securing the draw three minutes from time. The match at Molineux earlier this season in September was won 2-0 by Spurs with goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe. During the summer, midfielder Jamie O'Hara made the switch from Spurs to Wolves. Overall, Spurs have won 46 games, Wolves have won 30 games and the remaining 20 matches played have been drawn. please log in to view this image Full History of Tottenham Hotspur v Wolverhampton Wanderers Matches 1908-2012 please log in to view this image They Played for Spurs & Wolves.... 1981 FA Cup Spurs beat Wolves 3 - 0 and then went on to beat Man City. That will do for our next couple of league games. Nice one THFC.
Thanks 6061 as always. Gotta ask no Ossie? Anyone have an update on the injured players- not that we missed them last night.
Top quality and nice injury stats, too. Just shows what we've had to put up with, despite the media utterly ignoring it. Another big performance needed. We can really put some pressure on Mancini with a win, as City don't play til Monday.
If we set up like the Everton game and show some patience we should win this comfortably. Wolves will sit back and try to hit on the break and unlike Everton they do have players capable of achieving this. This is strange no nerves just anticipation.
SPURS TEAM NEWS: Scott Parker has a chance of returning for Saturday's Premier League clash against Wolves. Harry Redknapp said he was 'hopeful' that the midfielder would be fit to face Mick McCarthy's men after missing the last three matches with a knee injury sustained at Swansea on New Year's Eve. "We're hoping he's going to be okay," said Harry ahead of training on Friday. "But it was great to see Jake Livermore come in and play like he did against Everton." Sandro, William Gallas remain out with calf injuries and Ledley King is sidelined with a hamstring problem. There was good news from Spurs Lodge as Tom Huddlestone ran for the first time outside earlier this morning as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury. "It's good news for Tom, he's a fantastic footballer and it's been sad for him to miss out so far this season," added Harry.
Good news about Hudd if Modders does get injured he is our best replacement in that area. Think we could hit a few past Wolves, keeping the pressure on the Mancs.
Great news re Scott and Hudd, the more back the merrier. I doubt we'll score more than 2 v Wolves, I'd take 1-0 now, no danger.
It'd be harsh on Livermore if he missed out on this game, as his performance against Everton was excellent. I read somewhere that he attempted 78 passes and completed 77. Impressive stuff. Great to see that Parker and Huddlestone are on the road to recovery, though. Parker back for City and Huddlestone for Watford, maybe?
Yeah, I'd start Livermore, we don't want Parker getting a setback before the City game and Wolves always put in a few tasty tackles.
If Hudd is just back running, then Watford may be a bit soon? Let's face it, he has been unfit after a full pre-season, he probably looks like Frank Cannon at the moment?
True, HD. Perhaps a start for Kranjcar in the playmaker's role and a second half appearance from Huddlestone? I wonder how his fro's getting on?
