Did he really say that? Why is TWTD reporting something different? If he DID say that then he doesn't understand that Ipswich Town are a club supported by mums, grandmas, daughters, nieces, sisters, aunts around the county and most of them would do a better job than that clown!
Mmmm..I have heard far worse sexist comments in my time, and while I would never condone strong, abusive remarks, it was a natural and understandable reaction to another dreadful decision. Our Luck is running out it seems. He could have said..the assistant ref/linesman didnt have the b....ls to raise the flag!
I cant see anything at all wrong with the comment. He said 'lineswomen or whatever she is called' It if had been a bloke and he had of said 'linesman, referees assistant or whatever they have renamed them these days' then it wouldnt be a story. If he had said 'the only use for a woman at a football game is to provide the half time refreshments' I could understand the uproar but this is just bullshit.
Hampy, in all honesty they probably say things 20 times as bad about blokes on Loose Women. its this PC world gone mad. I find it most disturbing that somebody like Diane Abbott can post on Twitter 'Whites dividing because thats all they have ever done' and she just gets a slap on wrist and keeps her job. I wonder what would happened if it was the other way around?
Loose Women is abhorrent. It's on the national news on Radio Two, it's a representation of the club. Even Roy Keane didn't embarrass us this much. We can all banter but if the manager of Ipswich Town is saying this then what message does it send to all the girls in the town?
Hampy, tbh i think this will be the excuse that ME needs to sack him. but saying that he should be sacked because of his performance as a manager, not because of some crusade by some PC loonies in the press! Soon art of free speech will be banned from this country, because we will all be scared of upsetting somebody!
Perhaps I have a slightly different take on it because if I said anything like that to the press they wouldn't even have to have a meeting to decide whether to fire me! Paul Jewell will presumably have had media training. There is all this inconsistency going on with two footed tackles in IMPORTANT games and Paul Jewell wants to use this as an excuse for another dismal defeat. I think the reason it's worse than a bit of banter is that Paul Jewell is implying that the reason the penalty wasn't given was because it was a woman running the line. When we all know that refs and linesmen make bad calls most games. When you look around Portman Road, in good times or in bad, its never been a yobbish lads club. My mum has been going since the 60s and I know my cousin who played for Ipswich girls would feel massively let down by this. And as I pointed from the outset - Paul Jewell is the LAST person who can complain about poor decision making!!!!
By saying every man could see it, it gives the impression that there were no women watching the match. He should have said everybody could see it, apart from the assistant ref. To me it does not matter a jot what sex the officials are, you will get good and bad decisions irrespective, as long as people have passed the standard criteria for officating at this level, I see no problem, Jewell should not have mentioned the assistants gender.
I think Jewell is being slightly stitched up here by certain sections of the press. As I understand it, he was asked how he felt about the pen incident by a journo' who said it seemed a pen 'to every man in the ground'. Jewell responded with his 'to every man, but not every woman' comment. If he'd said it in isolation as it's reported in the mirror, that would be a big issue. In context though, I can't see how it's remotely sexist.
the press are making a mountain out of a mole hill with the jewell remarks. it was nothing more than a slip of the tongue. everyone knew what he meant to say. sometimes, this country is ridiculous in the way it reacts to comments like these. the fa will give him a slap on the wrists and then jewell can get back to the excellent job he is doing

I see nothing in that Mirror article which can be deemed sexist. Interesting that two different papers word it differently, the mirror says: "Unfortunately every man could see it but not a woman - the lineswoman or whatever she is called." But the Scum says: "Everyone thought to a man it was a penalty but not a woman. I really am struggling to see what the poor guy said that could be deemed even remotely sexist! The real issue for the FA is to actually train their match officials to a decent standard before they are unleashed on competitive football matches. It was a very bad decision that ultimately cost us at least a point and that could prove crucial in May.
Hey well yes, an important part of this is to hear it in context. If those words didn't come out of his mouth and the journalist set him up for it then that's very different. It's also different if he's angry or joshing. Either way though it was careless.
