every man could see it but not a woman

Sadly with the PC brigade so entrenched in modern UK life this is exactly what they like to bang on about. Personally I couldn't give two hoots about the comment and would not hold it against him (In all honesty I would probably at least think the same) but in my opinion it was a little unwise in the current climate to actually say it (If indeed he did say it). You know as well as anyone else, there will be a line of people just itching to make something out of such wording. Hence I think he was a silly ****er for saying it.

Yes he was a bit silly (a bit like his YMCA dance in front the ref at the end last night), But how can he be pulled over the coals over it, yet somebody like Diane Abbott tweet what she did and keep her job as a MP?

I understand exactly what you mean Guru but hey, life's not fair sometimes. Footballers and football managers are high profile and thus become easy targets for the press and those keen to jump on the band wagon.

If nothing else it might give the Ipswich board a reason to sack him (not that they need another reason <ok>)

Because Jewell meant it, as basically he was correct and apparently Diane Abott was taken totally out of context and wouldn't say anything remotely containing any references to race. Is that your nose growing Abott?
So you're not allowed to call a woman a woman anymore then?

tend to agree with guru - its more a slip of the tongue than anything else but the pc brigade will be well up for this. i guess the papers have it as their front page and a special pull-out feature inside... he should just apologise, get a slap on the wrists from the fa and then get back to the important business of relegating ipswich <ok>

I do reckon he made a mistake whilst actually trying to be PC, if it was a man on the line then saying "every man could see it was a penalty, but not one man" that's fine an said in variations a lot after football matches. He clearly got into saying that and remembered it was a woman. Said "woman", because she is, and it becomes sexist. It's unfortunate really. He should have thought about it better though.

I am inclined to agree with this <ok> Every chance of trying to say the PC thing in the heat of the moment. Not something I would be so good at I reckon <ok>

Bath-Canary (by the way lovely place Bath) makes a good point, how easy is it taht normal termonology can be turned into a sexist comment just in the heat of the moment. I reckon he will be sacked before Saturday now because of this, shame really because it should be his performances that dictate his position, not the PC loonies that run amok in this country. and your friend Colin will be installed.

If the BBC's report of what went on (that he was responding to a question) is accurate, there's no way he could lose his job over that comment. His performance, on the other hand...

seen the incident - was a definite penalty so i can totally understand why jewell went bananas <ok>
everything that happened to us in 2009 is happening to ipswich... the odd great performance (wolves 5-2 & west ham 1-0), dodgy decisions (bristol city home - winner in injury time, 5 yards offside & birmingham - blatant penalty turned down), too many loans, too many crocks, manager out of his depth... obviously there are other things but i've been saying it for a while but nothing changes.

when we went down charlton were down by christmas, but other than that there wasn't any stand out crap teams. everyone was pretty much the same - only towards the final month of the season really did saints, norwich and barnsley fall deep relegation trouble. we were all swapping places but we lost 7 games from the last 8. at least this year you have coventry and doncaster who in my opinion have no chance of survival. it means you only have one place up for grabs and there are some really poor teams around you such as bristol city, watford and portsmouth who could come unstuck if they go into administration again. i think you'll stay up more by default than quality and results <ok>

Unfortunately it looks like Yeovil might be slipping into League 2. I hope not, they are a great club.
