    I think we'll need a new signings.

Spearing went off injured today, and I feel if he is out for a month or more we will need a new signing. I fear that other wise we'll begin looking a bit thin in midfield, and we don't want to put to much pressure on Gerrard at the moment.

I feel we need someone solid, hard tackling and a neat passer. But we shouldn't break the bank on this.

This will also be good for squad depth in the long run.

    Opinions?

Spearing has done a good job, he's not Lucas but good cover. Lets see if it's long term first I suppose.

I'm sure Carra could do a job there for us he has done it before.

No far too slow. You need high energy and people would ghost past him easy.

    He's all about position.

Diarra from RM on loan? Don't know if he is getting much game time for them at the moment but he seems to fit the mould of Spearing/Lucas. Decent in the tackle and has good distribution. Also already played in the Prem so hopefully wouldn't take much time in adapting.

Hopefully Spearing is only out for a couple of weeks though and Gerrard/Henderson/Adam can do a job without him there.

Adam cant deputise in that role until he figures out how to tackle properly. Diarra is a good shout and its strange how we were meant to be loaded on midfielders at the start of the season but when both Lucas/Spearing are out we are short...

    Hoping spearing recovers quickly.

Diarra would be a very good shout. Adam is not a defensive midfielder, nor is Henderson and since Lucas's injury, we've seen on a number occasions where the opposition have often got in behind our midfield and straight to the defence.

adam, hendo, adam... rememebr hendo and adam played in a 4-4-2 together with no issue only a couple of weeks back.

Stoke = bloody hard game so i expect us to play 5 in the middle to match thier 4-4-2 up and try to pass it.

Stoke are a different proposition away from home, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take them lightly. Early goal is crucial as we know Stoke can defend very well and they will gain more confidence and grow as the game goes on without a goal.

I think DM is alot to do with positioning rather than pace. eg. Didi Hamann was never the quickest (no quicker than Carra) same goes for alot of other defensive midfielders

Mascerano's not all the quick either. Quicker than Carragher I guess.

don't think carra has the legs to run ven at his pace for 90mins.

CB is a lot less work than DCM.

masch could run all day and so could hamann in his day... for me stick hendo and adam in there and gerrard cna pass it about.

Mascherano and Hamman are slow in terms of acceleration in a straight line race. But they were quick to react and they were proactive by reading the game.

Lucas isn't particularly quick but he's mobile and reads the game well.

Think Diarra would be a great signing as he also has an element of creativity about him along with his defensive prowess
