Robert kubica's bad luck continues with him breaking his leg falling on ice. He also has done damage to his previous injury. Kubica who missed all of last season due to injuries to his hand during a rallying accident and was making good progress in his recovery. We may of seen him back in F1 in 2012 with maybe getting a few Lotus drives and was reported to be having a test in a 2 year old Ferrari later this year. This surely will dampen all hopes of a carear that looked very promising.

I feel real sorry for him <rose>

I think this could well put off Kubica's entry back into to formula one for a a few years or even brings his f1 return to an end.

Sad end

Indeed.

Like many, I had serious doubts about his ability to come back as the competitive driver he once was, in any case. But this latest set-back is difficult to see as anything less than a disaster for him. We can only hope that the break is not too bad.

Some people saying it may not be bad as first feared but still terrible news for him.

I think this is the end of his competitive F1 career. I sincerily hope he astounds us all and returns to the cutting end of th grid, difficult to see however.

Chin up though, many a driver has made a very successful career out of other series.

I think that is it for him. It was the same leg he damaged in the rally accident I hear so if its weak enough to break again after 10 months or so then I think it will never be strong enough for racing in F1 again. Sad way to end a really promising career.

Apparently, he reopened the original fracture in his leg.

I have a feeling we may see Kubica move onto WTCC or DTM in a few years.

While a broken leg is not the end of the world - see Webber 2010 - I think in the context of his other injuries this must surely represent the end of his F1 career.

He will be the latest "what could have been" entry in the F1 Encyclopaedia - if he doesn't come back it will be "Could he have won the WDC?" and if he does it will be "Just how great could he truly have been?". Much in the same vein as drivers like Gilles.

Spot on its a real shame but thats motorsport for you, although Kubica is slightly worse because it could have been avoided, whereas careers like that og Gilles were ended during an F1 race.

Yeah, Gilles might have been a bit of hyperbole, just me frantically scrabbling around for an example.

I suppose Kubica has committed no greater crime than the hunt for adrenaline and some extra money - it is just unfortunate that it has perhaps cost him so much more.

I think when Kubica returns to racing it will be a less physically challenging formula (maybe DTM etc). If he can succeed there then it may be possible that a midfield team will take a punt on him. Its highly highly unlikely that he'll walk into a top drive these days.

Shame, i hope the guy recovers fully. Unfortunately, i must agree with the other posts, this is likely the end of his F1 career.

It doesn't look great, but I'm not writing him off just yet. It wasn't likely that we'd see him back in a car 'till mid season if at all... so hopefully this is just a minor set back in his return.

It's not looking good, not only for his return but for his level of ability when he does come back.

Webber broke his leg in November 2010 and returned but perhaps this explains his relatively poor form during 2011, same for Massa since his accident, there's plenty of examples of F1 drivers returning after accidents and never quite being as quick.

Massa I'll agree with, he did have a head injury and there is no telling what effect the damage has done there. Webber only ever won a race AFTER he broke his leg, not before, and he was always a choker and poor, that is why he has never won any sort of championship his whole career, in fact Webber was statistically better after he broke his leg, the same goes for schumacher. Johnny Herbert was told he'd never get to F1 after he smashed his legs at Brands in f3000 and in 89 I was told I'd never play football again. I hung up my boots in 2006.

I personally think he will be back, and as good as he was before, according to the doctor he has full mobility in his arm and fingers, which for me was the only thing that would've stopped him, a broken leg isn;t that big a deal, all he has to be able to do move his foot 4 inches. I think he'll be in an F1 car by July.

I hope Kubica can return again, a fantastic gutsy driver. Pure-bred racer.
Get well soon.

All I can say is.....wow. I really feel for Rob. He's such a pure racing driver as EMSC says and an all-round nice bloke.
However, I feel I should quote a post I came across on F1Fanatic:
"According to the latest (as at 10PM today) information his injury was not as severe as media made it look. It turns out he has only a broken (?, at least injured) right ankle, when working in the garden in his Italian house. Kubica got it plastered and was sent home.
As for his recuperation, I have also came across information from Prof. Igor Rossello (the one who operated his hand and arm back in February), who said he met Robert 2 weeks ago and he was amazed to see his hand in “very good condition”. He also added that Robert drove the car himself."

How fragile is this guy? He must have a whicker skeleton bound together by cobwebs.

This is obviously a devastating setback, but it shouldn't signal an end to his career. He's still young, I think Webber was 33 when he broke his leg, Schumacher was about 31 and went on to win the next five championships. If Kubica's career doesn't take off again, it will be because of the injuries suffered last winter. I really hope he does make it, a racer of the very highest quality.

No way is it the end of his career, this guy survived the horrors of Canada 2007, and no-one human would return to F1 after that.
