It's official - Arry's top priority this year is to finish above Arsenal. Not sure about some of those 'legends' he jokes about bringing back. They were average even at their peak
We're only half way through the season fella. Spurs have still got to play the top teams away from home too, so a lot can change between now and the end of the season. The fat lady hasn't even begun to warm up yet
Believe what you like, the season is a marathon not a sprint. If they finish above us then they can say that they were better than us this season. Until then, it's all to play for.
'Quite some way'? I dont think so at all. I think we're pretty damn close to each other. I think our best team is as good (probably better) than their starting 11. -----------------Sczezney----------------- Sagna--Mertesacker--Vermaelen--Santos ----------Song---------Arteta------------- ----------------Wilshere------------------- Walcott--------VanPersie--------Henry/gervinho They do have better strength in depth though.(although with henry in our squad that bring us closer) Spurs are flying high, full of confidence but they wont win the league and you never know what might happen should they pick up a few major injuries (like we normally do)
I think they are better than us and I don't see the reason for the optimism for the remainder of the season considering we are the capitulate masters. Still .. its only 9 points - 3 games ... we are not helping our cause by losing and drawing when the others slip up.
Comparing our first teams: Van Persie would clearly improve ours and King, Parker, Modric, Van der Vaart and Bale would clearly improve yours. the other five are pretty close. How does that make your team as good or better?
Do we really want to do this one again? It's all personal preferences and shockingly most Arsenal fans will pick Gooners and vice versa ! Oh, and TheBear... what're you talking about with "like we normally do"?! That implies we're not right now! We've currently got our starting defence and best midfielder out injured, not counting numerous fringe players and those missing through ACON. For me this is the closest we've been for years and I think Spurs edge it if only for their strength in depth. As Piski says though there are many games to go yet.
It's all subjective I suppose. But I would take Sagna over any other rightback in the league, Vermaelen is a big improvement on Gallas, Walcott gets more assists and goals than Lennon and Wilshere at 19 is already as good as any midfielder in the league. Still like I said earlier, we lack strength in depth and it shows when we have multiple injuries (which is far too often)
Either you cant read, or you get confused easily because you basically just repeated what I just said.
No need for the twattish retort, I just read your comment differently to how you'd clearly intended it. Had you said "they wont win the league and you never know what might happen should they pick up a few major injuries (as we have now)" then I'd not have quibbled. Besides, I'm sure most Spurs fans will argue their case in respect to injuries anyway as (us aside) they pick up more than most teams.
Speak for yourself. While I am a Spurs fan I do watch other football and I can decide who the best players are without bias. This is the first season for 15 years when there would be more Spurs players than Arsenal players in my joint selection. Funnily enough it is also the first season in the same period when we look like finsishing above you.
Gallas and Lennon are not in my first choice Spurs XI either! Kaboul and Sandro are instead as they have improved immensely this year. I would have agreed about Sagna until recently but Walker is amazing currently.
Perfectly plausible but I'd have Kaboul insetad of Mertesacker and Parker instead of Song with Sandro on the bench
Well done. Sadly, people like you are in the minority on these forums. I have more Arsenal players in my starting 11 but including the subs Spurs sneak it. This is a first for me too.
We have the better defence and forwards. They have the better midfield. I'd say we are about even (For the first time in years). Still it means nothing if Sp*rs don't make it count.
He says the same about the Champions League at the start of the video below. 'Arry says many things and the meanings are often cryptic. Cockney Yoda
Putting King in your 'combined NL team' looks good on paper but in reality, I wouldn't have him in my team. Koscielny might not be better yet but he'd play more games and thus could become better with time as he's already improved loads this season.
Hmmm. Modric definitely yes, Bale definitely yes, King debatable but I would say no, VDV I guess so, Parker for me no. I would say Sagna, Szczesny and Koscielny/Vermaelen would improve you as well as RvP.
We've not lost any of the 11 games King's started in this season, he's still easily our best defender when fit enough to play. If you don't include King, surely you have to pick Kaboul. You Gooners love a stat, Kaboul and Koscielny are the same age but Kaboul has 5 times as many international caps For what it's worth, I'd say that the only players that are a lot better than their counterparts are VDV, Bale and RVP, the rest of the positions are fairly close.
