This all stems from the problem of only having 5 subs, I'm sure if we had 7 then Peet would get on the bench but it's a wasted spot now that we only have 5

It seems according to this German news paper if things worked out in Germany then the loan would be made into a signing. I guess if he comes to us, and it works out OK, then he could be made into a signing.

According to Bild, Norwegian youngster King, of Gambian origin, has joined the German side on a one-year loan deal from Old Trafford, with the option to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Would be a good scenario for us if we struck a similar deal

FFS,, we dont have a Fit keeper good enough to take up a bench space (now that you can only name 5) so i would risk it and go without one. thats the folly of the 5 subs rule. So Hobbs can take over IF anything should happen to Vito. I was surprised that Joe Cracknell was not on the bench against Ipswich.

Only 5 subs? Bloody luxury. Remember the good old days when there were no subs, then 1, 2, 3 ...

Pretty soon it will be like ice hockey where there are more subs than players on the ice and are swapped in and out as play demands.

very good. lol. Seriously, i remember the old days of only 1,2,3, etc But the 7 subs rule was fair to all. It gives the manager better options to choose from. The fact that you can name 7 subs still in the cups makes it even crazier that it was changed especially in the championship.

Personally I'd like to go for a rugby league style of being given so many interchanges per game from a set number of named substitutions.

With Mannone's injury record I'd definitely have a keeper on the bench, as we've just signed Peet from Grimsby, I'd suggest that it will be him.

Still on his way back from injury, he seems to have a severe back problem.

    Spineless bastard.

I guess he will have a back problem if he has no spine.

Yeah they did it with Jagielka. I'm pretty sure he ended up in goal at one point when they were in the PL, and did quite well. I guess Jagielka was a capable keeper. But most outfielders aren't capable goalies which presumably is why most teams have a sub keeper, even when only allowed 5 subs.

OLM let us know that the contingency plan for the Derby game was Hobbs going in goal if Mannone got injured, but that doesn't mean he is suddenly a realistic option to play in goal like Jagielka was for Sheff Utd. Tickler has got a bit carried away with this Hobbs idea.

I would prefer Joe Cracknell if we are to name a sub GK. Curious as to why Joe was not named last saturday.

Not really. Its just that i dont see the point is putting a rookie on the bench when you can only name 5 subs. Fingers crossed that Basso may be fit enough soon to take up a spot though.

We signed Peet on Jan 1st and immediately gave him a squad number and put him on the bench, I think it's fairly obvious with with Basso and Gulacsi out, he's going to be our No.2.

He trials at Man United last season, so he must be half decent.

Because it's risk enough not putting a goalkeeper on the bench no matter who starts.. if they get injured and you put an outfield player in goal it could easily cost you the game.
If it's Mannone or Basso, one of whom is injury prone and the other suffering from tendinitis.. it's doubly risky, if not more.

Fair enough on Peet, but whats happened to Joe Cracknell as he looks very assured in goal.

    Why did Grimsby release him?

Do you think (or know) if Oxley, Cracknell and Peet are all rated by the management?

He was never on a pro contract at Grimsby, just a youth one and I think they were skint when it came to offering him full terms.

I don't know what the management think of the keepers, other than the fact that they're a pissed off that Oxley seems to be permanently injured.
