Been a very quiet transfer window :| with a few players been touted for moves, i think the 2 main names that have been of interest to me is Samba and Hoilett (both I think would fit brilliantly into our team and improve them) by the sounds of it cahill is going to chelski (hopefully wont be there before our game, even though wickham did tear him apart in our game against bolton i believe?) keane is going to villa (villa will be relegation candidates in 3 years in my opinion, mcleish isnt exactly aiming high with them) with the amazingness of mcclean, a left winger would be nice for a backup, but I believe that steven pienaar is the name being linked with us for that ? £2.5 mil for a player of his quality is a bargain if you ask me however (since we dont know how much MON has to spend) would leighton baines be above us? putting a cheeky bid in, imagine him at lb, we would have at least 3 free kick specialists in the squad (something i dont believe there has ever been during my time as a fan) this edirzeko or something we have been linked with, admittedly I haven't seen him and therefore can't really judge, but 12 in 80 in the portugese league is rather poor by anyones standard and therefore a better player to go for may be Miralem Sulejmani from ajax, similar to player to Suarez, rather young and could be a similar hit to the Prem With MON arriving there is also that small chance that the ultimate goal scoring maching known as Heskey could join us, it is known that many fans dont....appreciate his obvious skill and epicness however if he was on a free and relatively cheap wages, if it makes MON happy, quite frankly I couldnt care James collins I hope we are not after as I despise the player, i think hes a dirty cheating twat personally Our northern cousins I believe are being linked with everyone under the sun so it would be difficult to link them with anyone with some truth behind it, however they will be after a striker now with sammy ameobi's condition who would people like to see us possibly bring in? (serious!)
Sulejmani hasn't done anything since he went to Ajax, wasn't he loaned out after his first season? I can remember he came very close to being loaned to West Ham. To say he spectacularly flopped would be an under-statement. Highest fee ever paid by a Dutch club as well I believe or highest fee between two sides from Eredivisie, one of the two. I'm one of the few on here who wouldn't actually mind not signing anyone. We've managed to get ourselves into a healthy position (currently) if we can pick up 2 wins in January I'd be happy to stick to the same squad and give the younger players a chance to prove themselves if we get injuries. I don't think we should buy just for the sake of buying, we've done enough of that. Possibly a loan deal to tie us over till the summer but we've got a good academy, might as well give them a chance. So far players coming through from our reserves have only impressed, Meyler, Henderson, McClean, Colback.
My limited ITK (Am friendly with one of the lower ranked scouts in the club) tells me that O'Neill has been offered Zamora, Andy Johnson, and Heskey, although he doesn't want any of them and would rather stick with what he has than buy any of them. The one he is very interested in apparently is Defoe who is desparate just to play and get 8 or 9 goals between now and the end of the season to make sure he goes to the Euros. Genuinely what I heard so please don't shoot the messenger.
I'm with Adz - I'd rather not sign anybody than sign in this window for the sake of it. I do think that we really need a good quality CB but other than Samba I can't really think of anybody on the market at the moment who would improve our team. I think MON should take the 31 January off!!
Can't see Baines coming. If Everton didn't have Moyes then maybe, but he's on top of his game and we can't yet claim to be a step up for him. Him and Bardo starting would be class though!
Samba/Johnny Evans Krancjar Defoe/Andy Johnson Doubt we'd get Samba, think Evans will be leaving OT soon. BIG admirer of Krancjar. Defoe and Johnson will always score goals.
A mate of mine is a ManU fan and he would happily drive Johnny Evans where ever he wants to go - he reckons him to be really error prone and expects the worse everytime he plays. He really doesn't seem to have kicked on since he played for us. I agree re Baines but I don't think we have any chance of getting him
Well there's no point Defoe signing for us then - if he wants to go to the Euro's he will definitely stop that happening by coming here!! Hope the first sentence is right - Zamora Hesky (FFS!) and Johnson - Johnson is the only one I'd be even remotely interested in as he is a goalscorer which the others aren't. If we don't sign anyone I wouldn't be overly bothered - I do think we need a goalscorer but you don't get any value buying in January and we are scoring goals from all over the pitch so something's going right. As for the OP - I'd LOVE to see Leighton Baines brought in - tremendous left back - great crosser and great at free kicks (although not quite up there with Seb) but I don't think that'll happen unless Everton are languishing and I think there may be "bigger" clubs in for him if he does leave Everton...
Liverpool's l.b. Aurelio would be a good signing seeing as he's been overlooked by Dalglish (he played 2 right backs last night with Enrique on the bench) and i think 2/3m should get him. Also wouldn't mind Gary Hooper from Celtic or Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield (both would be available for around 5/6m and are both great finishers). Other than this I can't think who would be available that wouldn't cost silly money although I wouldn't mind that Samba fella for 50 trillion dollars lol
I hope it's not right about Defoe. The year he stole Bent's World Cup place he scored 14. Sounds respectable enough - until you consider that he scored five in one game (9-1 against Wigan?) and a hat trick later in the season. Apart from two brilliant games, he scored six all year. Nice player, just not what we need.
Cutey We need a striker, and apart from that one year, i do believe defoe has proved he can score through the seasons even with injury I'd take him on loan just for a option
Sure. He's a decent enough player and if that's what MON wanted I wouldn't grumble. But I hope it's just a loan. I don't think he fits exactly into the slot we're trying to fill, and, overall, I think I'd be happier sticking with Bendy, Campbell, Ji, Whickham and maybe give Noble a shot. Save the cash till an exact fit comes along.
dont think O'Neill would sign anyone permanently at the min, think he'll wait for summer for that However it looks like Noble is going out on loan, Bendy hasn't been the same since whickham was injured, campbell is just coming back from a long term injury, he may need time to find some form, JIIIIIIIII is the super sub! imagine however Bendtner/Whickham and Defoe......
