Manchester City Manager Roberto Mancini is not happy that the red card of Kampany was not rescinded. Spearing was also given a red card for something similar, but Liverpool failed to appeal. While I agree with Mancini some referees are overzealous, he himself must respect referees decisions.
spearings tackle was worse than kompanys anyway.. as much as it pains me to say it kompany only took ball, spearing did take the player aswell. happy with the timing of kompanys red though!
with all of this going on, how did cabaye get away with the stamp on spearing - saw it again last night and it gets worse with every viewing - also not the first time this season he has done it
This. Rightly or wrongly, the rules define "playing in a dangerous manner", which involves no contact, as a yellow card offence. So whether or not there is contact does make a difference according to the rules.
for me contact is either a) you can't aviod it at all or b) you got out of the way cos you saw it coming. i'm happy if the rule is dangerous reckless play = a red.
I'm not against the physical side of the game, I just don't know what this trend of going in with 2 feet is all about. Just lead with 1 leg.
Trend? It has always been there. Only now the softies are picking up on it! 2 footed, gets the ball = has always been fine. 2 footed, get it wrong = you're off. The game is getting so petty and soft nowadays.
Agreed. I love seeing 2 players charge into a 50-50 tackle, and both getting up at the end of it. It only goes wrong when someone goes in half hearterdly or dangles a foot in. Then yes, they may get hurt. When I was young, we were taught to go into tackles hard, because if you don't you are going to come off worse. The perfect tackle for me is Jay Spearings. Go in low, win the ball and in your follow through if you catch the man then fine. It used to be called "Letting the opponent know you are there". Kompany, Spearing & Johnson's today were all brilliant tackles and not 1 of them was a foul in my opinion. If none of them win the ball then yes it's certain red, but that's why tackling is a skill in the same way everything in football is. Get the tackle right = good tackle. Get it wrong = yellow/red card.
So much ****e is talked about dangerous two footed tackles causing injuries, i mean really how often do you see a leg broken etc from a "dangerous" two footed tackle compared to injuries caused by completely innocuous tackles and then falling landing awkwardly.
100% football has really gone down hill in this respect. I used to love letting a player get level with me (i'm rb) and slide in flicking the ball out for a throw in and he would then fall over with his own momentum. I would probably get a yellow every time now! One thing though I wouldn't stand for people diving! They claim they're hurt then you might as well deliver!
Exactly, legs etc can be broken from one legged tackles also, plus elbow's,pushes, late headers etc can cause just as much damage. Its the intent to cause harm and thats the issue.
IMO , NONE of Spearings,Kompanys,G Johnsons or Rodwells tackles were red card offenses,IMO they werent even fouls There are 2 problems here 1. No consistancy from officials, nothin new there then 2. The games is turning into a game for big jessies, tackling is part of the game,if you get the ball IMO its a fair tackle,END OF.The people who make the rules (FA,FIFA,UEFA) are f**kin nuts!!!!!!!
I think what constitutes the red card is in the eye of the ref. Some will call it harsh ( like Kompany and Spearing) some will not even call it ( Johnson tonight and let's say Evans from last year, think he got a yellow but tore up HOlden in the process). I think Mancini made a mistake by talking about it, FA might come down on him and glad Gerrard kind of put him in his place although Mancini does have a point in terms of consistency, but it did come off like he was trying to get Johnson in trouble.
Mancini looks a bit of a hipocrit after all this weeks tantrums about rooney getting company sent off. I don't mind him having a problem with the FA as i think the card should have been recinded but he shouldn't focus any of his frustration at liverpool.
So much of the decision making is down to the referee's interpretation of the game at that split second. How many of us will be watching a neutral match and wince at a challenge but otherwise leave it uncommented on, but go wild when a player leaves a foot in? How do you define 'Dangerous play' or Serious Foul Play' - its subjective. The focus on 'Two footed' seems to be the 'commentator's shorthand' for a dangerous challenge, but neither they nor most pundits seem to demonstrate an understanding of the rules on which this 'Two Footed challenge not allowed' idea is based...
