Are QPR the new Leeds?. Submitted by WG on Wed, 11/01/2012 - 10:27 This is the comparison made by Tony Cascarino in a critical article in The Times yesterday who also throws in West Ham United for good measure. Cascarino reckons that QPR display 'a desperation to stay in the Barclays Premier League at all costs; a sense that the club's future is being mortgaged to pay for the present. Big signings, big wages, big egos.' Even Cascarino has to admit that 'it's absolutely normal to do all you can to avoid relegation'. However, he thinks that dismissing Neil Warnock smacks of a team who simply cannot afford to be relegated.' Well, who can be? Cascarino reckons that QPR are constrained by an average Loftus Road crowd of 15,000 (which seems a low figure to me). But then part of the plan for the future is to build a new stadium which would overcome the capacity constraints at Loftus Road. However, his real scorn is reserved for owner Tony Fernandes 'who seems to enjoy the limelight just a little too much'. Having paid a lot of money for the club and made further funds available, perhaps it's not surprising that he should want to enjoy it a little. Most Premiership owners are not shrinking violets, Bolton's owner offering a rare exception. Apparently Fernandes' real crime is his use of social media: 'Fernandes's frequent appearances on TV and his delight at using social media to communicate with his club's fans even remind me a little of Michael Knigton, who attempted to buy Manchester United in 1989.' I don't think there is any real comparison and is Fernandes to be faulted for staying in touch with the fans? It's a nice piece of provocative journalism and no doubt QPR have a fight on their hands to avoid relegation. But it's hardly the reckless gamble that Cascarino thinks it is.
Some people dont like us, I remember Alan Brazil always picking us to lose every time he commentated on us. No point getting upset by it but it will make it all the more sweeter when we get the new ground and become a top half team pushing for europe.
Hmm, Cascarino. Played for Millwall. Best years in the demanding (and totally corruption free) French Ligue 1 of the 1990s. Pretend Irishman. Left Sky after describing Traore's performance at Man Utd in the 8-2 as a "holocaust", having to deny that he is anti- Semitic. Yes, I'll take what he has to say very seriously indeed.
Our average crowd is 17025...... And what on earth is different in this situation with hundreds other situations ,that happened in the premier league seasom after season ,month after month and club by club. In our case if the club wants to avoid relegation ,and grow bigger with using money, sacking employees and signing new empolyees. So what is different compared to normal football ,and any other busines that matter?
The home end is usually sold out or only has very restricted views left if the att is 16k or over. Its usually the away end that has the empty seats. Once it gets to 15k there arent any good seats left and you have no chance of sitting next to a mate as its singles only.
Its when the crooked Russian took over. The plastic fans who like them because they played them on FIFA dont even know what happened pre Roman. Theres a thread that runs many, many pages and only 1 person supported them before he took over.
Of course there are bigger pricks out there than Cascarino; he was only at Chelscum for 2 years whereas John 'The Chav' Terry has been there a lot longer than that!!!
There seems to be plenty of pundits and fans alike willing us to fail. Let's make sure we disappoint them!
This is the same Cascarino that wrote about himself being a lazy, drunk womaniser who cheated on his wife in a cheesy hotel!?....what a ****ing loser he is.
He has come a long way since winning New Faces in 70/80s Beautiful singer his version of Neil Diamond's 'Crackling Rose' still makes me wet my pants ... A must for West London Willies record collection
