Last Updated: January 11, 2012 8:35am Spurs boss could step up pursuit of Blackburn defender Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham would win any race with Queens Park Rangers for the signing of Chris Samba. The Blackburn centre-back is in high demand this January and has also been linked with a surprise move to join Carlo Ancelotti's Paris St Germain. Redknapp has made no secret of his interest in Samba and could step up his pursuit after seemingly losing the battle with Chelsea for Bolton's Gary Cahill. QPR are also interested in Samba, especially after his former Blackburn boss, Mark Hughes, took over as manager, but Redknapp thinks Spurs would be a preferred destination. "I've tried to sign Cahill so many times. He is a good player and he is not expensive," the Tottenham boss is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail. "Samba is a good player, too. If Tottenham wanted him we would have a big chance, with no disrespect to QPR." Tottenham could on Wednesday night move to within three points of Premier League leaders Manchester City if they win their game in hand against Everton. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7422777/? No disrespect?! Oh come off your high horse Arry! Discuss?!
If you were Samba where would you go? Spuds, who still have a chance at the Prem title, will probably be playing Champions league next season, playing alongside a better squad (at the moment!) and probably better money or QPR who will be fighting to avoid the drop, little chance of European football next year and playing alongside a team with few internationals, etc. The fact that he won't necessarily be first choice at Spuds may not bother him, or more likely he may have the confidence to think that he will be first choice. The only reason he would sign for us is if he wants to rejoin Hughes and is prepared to be a part of building a team to challenge for Europe. Key to all of this will be his agent. From an agent's point of view the player's value will increase more at Spurs that QPR in the short term. Why the F does everything in football now boil down to agents and advisers.
I very much doubt spurs have that much money to spend. They have a massive wage bill and are no longer in Europe. They've already spent a fair bit over the past 12 months. Despite what 'arry says, I think any big signing is as much of a financial gamble for them as it is for us. Who owns spurs?....
If they got Samba surely that would release Bassong. Not saying they are in the same mould but Bassong is a good CH.
Harry Redneck won't want to get into a bidding war with us over Samba, partic if he thinks we may take Bassong at a good price instead of Samba. Reckon he'll be calling Sparky shortly...
Norway, this is football remember? It inhabits a parallel universe to reality. If PSG were interested and offered double the wages we or the Spuds would then what....? Nothing is certain.
True WBA, forgot about them Not a bad point 12thman Pretty sure Levy won't allow for more CB's, injurys or not, even how much Arry scream and beg They must be stacking CB's by the numbers at Spurs!
As a French speaker Samba may be more interested in PSG. Don't forget 'Arry is likely to be moving to England this summer - may put big name players off Spurs if they don't know who the manager will be.....
Hadn't crossed my mind and now I feel a bit sick.....given their success with 'Arry, after ups and downs with foreign managers, I reckon Spurs will go British - hopefully Moyes or Lambert (just love the yellow and green flying vermin to lose him). Moyes is doing a sensational job again at Everton with virtually nothing....
I think Christopher Samba may in fact choose Rangers over Spurs. If you look at Spurs' squad, I would be highly surprised if Samba was first choice for Spurs over Michael Dawson and Ledley King (who I think is injured) and even William Gallas. Not because he is no better, but just because 'Arry rates them. Samba is 27 years old and is arguably going into the form of his career. At that age he won't want to be sitting on the bench often, he'd want to be playing week in week out. If you look at the next few seasons, including this one, Spurs are out of Europe now and are challenging for the title. They'll probably be Europa league again next season (I still think Che**ea and Arsenal will finish higher) with expectation to perform and they'll be signing more higher quality players to push for a champions league space. Whereas Rangers are going to be in the same boat as Blackburn for the remainder of this season (won't have to alter mentality) and he is going to be an integral part of our team for the forthcoming years. With the influence and leadership qualities he possesses, I wouldn't be surprised if Samba feels he would be more valued and would be better off at QPR.
The Bassong thing probably died with Warnock's departure. Why else would Hughes make his first action to increase our bid for Samba? That said I hve no doubt that Samba will go to Spurs if they meet the wage demands which leaves us back to square 1 on the defender front. I wonder if Big Dan was at that first training session?
Add to the fact that if 'Arry does take up the England post after Euro 2012, he might quickly find himself out of favour at Spurs.
Samba might not get many games at spurs, he would be a fixture here and i think he has a very good relationship with Hughes. 40 odd apps here a year or perhaps 5 in the LC and europe once theyve already qualified?
