Sunderland enter race to sign Tottenham playmaker By Thomas Sunderland Joining an already long list of potential suitors, Sunderland have become the latest club to be associated with a move for Tottenhateven misfit, Steven Pienaar. Pienaar has found himself out of sorts at White Hart Lane since moving to the club in January of last year, and is also being linked with a Stoke City as well as a return to Goodison Park. The midfielder would cost Martin OâNeillâs side around £2.5m and if the Northern Irishman could return Pienaar to his fighting best, could be considered quite a bargain. Spurs had high expectations of the winger when he moved to the North London outfit but Pienaar has failed to live up to them after making only fifteen appearances in the past 12 months. Everton would provide the biggest competition in landing the South African, having already spent four years at the side between 2007-2011. The player knows the club and is apparently keen on being reunited with the Merseysiders, however the deal may not go through due to Evertonâs finances. The Blues are currently restricted to loans and very small money moves as they find themselves in the same financial troubles time and time again. This may restrict the club from bringing the player back into the side, as they may not be able to afford his £2.5m price-tag, especially if he has seen a drop in form. On the other hand, the Black Cats were highly busy over the summer months and arenât expected to change over the next six months, as Ellis Short continues to invest his money and confidence into Martin OâNeill.
Don't think a winger is a high priority at the moment, would be surprised if this came off. £2.5m would be a good price though if he regained his for and lets face it MON would be the man to do it judging by how he has turned the shower of ****e around that lost to Wigan
