Am I actually allowed to call them dustmen these days, or will I be arrested at the border next time I come over?

We now have two bins up the road where we have to take our bags. The big black one is for general rubbish that will go to landfill and the small yellow one is for things that can be re-cycled. Most weeks the black one is half empty and the yellow one is over filled and bags are placed all round it. It seems that when people take on board the advantages of trying to re-use waste it can be quite successful.

Good question. We have been given a second yellow one now after the mayor listened to me telling him that one was not enough. Not sure that he will want to listen to a plea for a third one. I had thought that the different colours could be swapped round, but the dust cart is designed in such a way that it is not possible until all of the villages and towns get to the same state of re-cycling.

ah, that would be like us putting our green rubbish in the brown bin and vice versa! But our recycling boxes are a joke, they're so small..but at least they still get collected weekly..the dustbins are now fortnightly...i think!

Wouldn't swear to this, but it's because 'dust' is all that the original dustmen removed. The term harks back to the days when they were employed purely to remove the remains of coal fires - the ashes or dust. The days when there was very little packaging and what there was, was burnt on the fire; the days when very little food was thrown away; the days when old clothes were worn until threadbare and then given away to the rag & bone man.

Thought you'd remember that Frenchie! ;)

    Good morning all,

Went on a very interesting course last night about my son's autism. The speaker was very good and we got to speak to him afterwards for a little while. He's given us some very good advice about my sons diet which could really chance things. Its amazing what one type of food/protein if avoided could do for my sons development. :)

thanks for the coffee Ak, made myself a caramel latte and had a few berries with it :)

Ah, who could forget Steptoe and Son! ...would be great for the team bus!

:) that sounds positive Sandy, good news. It does seem amazing how food can make a positive change, and how they have discovered these things over the years.

<laugh> Darn it, i should keep my mouth shut! ;)

    Afternoon Sandy,

It seems like that it's not such an issue with Aspergers as it is with autism even though Aspergers is an ASD. Mind you, we had enough problems with youngest having an intolerance to soft fruits and everything made with them e.g apple & blackcurrant squash, sweets with real fruit juices in them etc to have to worry about adjusting his diet further still.
