That isnt a stat, that's just how football works. You can twist stats to help your argument, you cant do anything to points tallies. Defensive record stats dont win you the league, points do.

Points are not a stat but goal against are and therefore don't mean anything......whatever you say mate but I think its normally accepted that the team who has let in the least goals at the end of the season has the best defense or have I been reading the game wrong all these years, silly me.

Well it isnt the end of the season, so save that claim for May if that's your logic. Just a few weeks ago we had the best defence and best record, it can change very quickly. Points measure how well the entire team is performing, not just defence, so if we have more then we must be playing better, regardless of your defensive record.

I totally agree with you. If we have let in less goals we will have a better defense and if you have more points you will have been the better team, what I said from the start really.

The reason the atmosphere has changed is quite simple.

Some Mags spend so much time on the Mackem board , that they are beginning to like us. Go on , admit it.

The stats are irrelevant because if we look beyond them, we can analyse every individual player (who may or may not be injured now) and figure out who would be in the best XI. You can't just ignore that Perch was in the side, because when he was in we conceded a ****load of goals, but that has no bearing on how good Coloccini or Steven Taylor is. Why would a poor defensive period due to James Perch mean that Coloccini and Steven Taylor aren't as good players as originally thought? It makes no sense.

The same goes for you. Why would playing midfielders in your defence have any bearing on how good Brown or any other defensive player is?

I think relations have only improved due to the Mags who spend an awful lot of their time on the Sunderland board being generally ok...As this thread has proved, the vast majority of Mags are still deluded knob-heads who think their team are good enough for the champions league, but they are also the ones who don't venture over to our board very often..<whistle>

    <doh> Wtf.

The fact you rate Westwood (your third choice keeper?) higher than Krul says it all really. Wasn't much point reading on after that point.

That's about as biased a comparison as I've seen. Ever.
