okay that was it really but I still remember it...
Great shout and a goal I've posted on here before - still one of my favourite ever City goals. I was stood behind the goal and it was one of those where from the second he hit it you knew it was in the top corner.
Just tried to look Antonio Doncel up on wikipedia and he doesn't have an entry (for the record, neither does Simon Dakin and he fell down a lift shaft). Google's not throwing much up either and according to this link his career ended when he left City - http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=9903 From memory he was here while his wife studied at Hull University and went back to Spain when she'd finished - is that true? Anyone any idea what happened to him after he left City? He was one of my favourite players at the time (one of the first foreigners I remember seeing play for City) and I'd be intrigued to find out more
I'm too young to remember him, but would love to see him play today. I've heard all about him and whilst he would probably be banned most of the time, I'd be interested to see how these old-fashioned centre forwards played. Equally, any of the 60s front 5 that were meant to be one of the best attacks around at the time. Particularly Waggy or Ian Butler, players I understand showed sublime skill and didn't really solely on pace and power like a lot of modern players.
The choices the choices... Junior LEWIS, Kevin FRANCIS, hmmmm ... would have to go for.......................... Tony NORMAN, given our current plight for keepers !!!!
Colin Alcide......just to give us a reality check on how good we have things compared to ten years ago!
Not exactly from retirement, just to be able to come back, Billy Bremner and Emlyn Hughes together in Black & Amber shirts again, with David Rocastle alongside, but for someone actually alive Waggy (Ken) & Chillo and Ken Knighton
Dexter Tucker for me. I remember Doncel's first game in pre season. The announcer gave his full name as Antonio Doncel Varacel? Everyone was a bit puzzled about who he was as we'd had no info on blow your socks off signings.....
Wasn't there a rumour that we played him as an unregistered player in a pre-season friendly and therefore had to sign him to avoid getting into trouble? I'm really curious to find out what happened to him - I might have to start a "where's Antonio" internet campaign...
