You certainly sound as if you are in a good position to spot likely lads, who was in charge when you tried to contact City?
Crawley are quite a well off club and I wouldn't be surprised to see them mid table or above in lg 1 waugh the squad they have now. I honestly think you would be looking atleast 750k for him
City don't tend to pay much attention to lads outside of the local area, as there's all sorts of issues with regard to catchment etc. I know a couple of our local scouts, one of whom is responsible for sorting a deal for Emerton, but even he isn't impressed with the set up, he thinks any really decent talent is more likely to end up at TWS.
Thanks for the insight, seems rather narrow minded, as I would have thought players from non league teams, would not be resticted by catchment areas etc. I can understand if that is from say Schools, but for the likes of the players Tiger40 is mentioning, I would have thought they wouldn't be an issue. Maybe NB might have other ideas going forward.
Thanks for that Lammie. I have been keeping up with the local rags down here and it is all over the place. In fact there was also a small article in the Sports Sherts in the Express this morning. It will be interesting to see if he gets offered anything, if not there are a host of league clubs waiting in the winds, one of which is Brighton.
John, it was Peter Taylor and Nigel Pearson. I would make it clear that I never actually spoke to them in person. I left it to members of the coaching staff to pass on my info. Whether it ever got as far as them I wouldnt know. I had passed info on before these two managers about other players but never received any other contact. Seems no one was interested.
If that is that case at City Lammie then its a bloody disgrace. Prior is a Portsmouth lad and he had no hesitation whatsoever of going up there for two weeks. There is a rash of talent in non league football and I go and watch a lot of games when I am not watching City. I go to Bognor as much as I can and you do see players who are maybe not Championship standard but certainly good enough for a punt in the lower FL. If City are waering blinkers then something is certainly very wrong with their system. Perhpas being in a good position with someone internally you may wish to have a word!!!!
NP I can sort of understand, as he seems to have the attitude that he know everything there is too know, and puts all his faith in Walsh, who is a good scout. PT I would have thought might have been the type to follow up on such matters. Having said that, I cannot understand why they did not follow up on it, or maybe the coaching staff just did not pass on the message. Maybe an E mail or letter to NB or AP might do the trick?
To be honest I know very little about Tubbs. His goal scoring record and how is career has gone thus far reminds me a bit of Charlie Austins. Might be worth a punt IMO.
The classic example is Les Mutrie, signed up after our FA Cup (+2 replays) versus Blyth Spartans. He wasn't too shabby, was he?
Tubbs was at Salisbury City and his goals, which were prolific then, took them from Southern League through to the Conference. Unfortunately Salisbury then went full time and inevitably they over spent and nearly went bust. They were relegated and they had to get rid of nearly all their players. Tubbs was signed by Crawley for about 100,000. I think a lot of clubs in the league were nervous of signing him because of his age. I bet a few now wish they had gambled.
other reports (Bournemouth linked) have it at 500k. maybe we can add James Harper to sweeten the deal ?
Ipswich Town and Paul Jewell OR Hull City and Nick Barmby. Tough choice for the lad if it came to that.
Why not look at the kid from Fleetwood, Jamie Vardy? Only turned 25 today, so he's got at least 2-and-a-half years on Tubbs. Linked with Fulham and numerous Championship clubs.
