...Brazilian striker Henrique Mark Hughes, who is expected to be announced as the new manager of Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday, is planning a raft of signings including the exciting young Brazilian striker Henrique. By Jason Burt 11:00PM GMT 09 Jan 2012 Hughes, and his adviser Kia Joorabchian, arrived at Loftus Road on Monday to finalise the deal to succeed Neil Warnock who was sacked on Sunday. Hughes emerged from four hours of talks to state that he was “pleased” at how the discussions had gone but added that “nothing was confirmed”. “There’s a will to get where we both feel comfortable,” the former Fulham manager said, adding that talks would resume on Tuesday and that he was an “ambitious manager and hopeful [the] club will match the ambitions.” If the talks succeed, Hughes is expected to bring his trusted backroom staff of Mark Bowen, Eddie Niedzwiecki and Kevin Hitchcock with him. Telegraph Sport revealed that QPR owner Tony Fernandes had lost faith in Warnock’s ability to save the club from relegation and wanted to make a change before it was too late. With Fernandes overseas, talks with QPR’s chief executive Phil Beard continued into the evening, although they are thought to have centred more on the club’s transfer plans during the remainder of the window, rather Hughes’s contract. The 48 year-old has already agreed in principle to succeed Warnock, and was signing his contract on Monday night, but wanted assurances that Rangers will spend the funds, not only to save themselves from relegation but eventually to become a Premier League force. His arrival will represent a coup for Fernandes. Hughes quit Fulham in the summer because he believed the club’s ambitions did not match his own and, although Rangers are less established in the top flight, it is understood he is intrigued by the project being undertaken by Fernandes, which includes plans for a new 30,000-seat stadium. For that to happen Rangers, who are 17th in the table just one point above the relegation places, having taken only two points from their last eight league matches, must avoid dropping into the Championship. Bids have already been submitted for a number of players including Blackburn Rovers’ Christopher Samba. However Rangers face stiff competition for Samba, with Tottenham Hotspur expected to trump their offer of £5 million by bidding £8 million for the defender. Spurs are trying to tie up a deal before Hughes’s appointment because they know the Welshman has a good relationship with Samba having signed him for Blackburn. Rangers are already in talks with Chelsea defender Alex and have discussed a move for Manchester City’s Nedum Onuoha, who has also previously worked with Hughes. It will be interesting to see whether Hughes makes a bid for City’s Nigel de Jong, although it may be difficult to persuade the Dutch international to join QPR. The Welshman will also want to bolster his squad’s attacking options. He has previously worked with Fulham’s Andy Johnson — a £2 million bid was made by QPR and rejected — and Bobby Zamora, who could also be a target. Fernandes has discussed the possibility of making a move for Wayne Bridge — Warnock told him he did not want the defender — who was signed for City by Hughes and, although the left-back is keen to return to London, he would have to take a cut on his £90,000-a-week wages even though he would be a free transfer. It is also likely that Rangers are planning at least one spectacular move in the market — and bids for the likes of Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe have been discussed – and the possibility of Henrique is intriguing. The 20-year-old Brazilian won the Golden Ball, as the best player at the Under-20 World Cup and the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer. Henrique plays for Sao Paulo but is understood to be keen to leave and move to a European club. There have been unconfirmed reports that he has a €20 million (£16.5 million) release clause in his contract, should he move abroad. Hughes’ first game in charge will be at Newcastle United on Sunday and he will go there with a depleted squad unless signings are made quickly. Joey Barton is suspended, while Adel Taarabt and Armand Traoré are at the Africa Cup of Nations. Who is Henrique? Queens Park Rangers would be pulling off a major transfer coupif they persuade Sao Paulo striker Henrique to relocate to their relatively unglamorous corner of west London. The 20 year-old was named player of the tournament for his performances for Brazil at the Under-20 World Cup last summer. AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma and Juventus all expressed an interest but he decided to stay in Brazil and sign a new contract with Sao Paulo. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/9003891/Mark-Hughes-cannot-wait-to-get-started-as-new-QPR-manager-and-sets-his-sights-on-Brazilian-striker-Henrique.html?
Bloody hell!!! If we sign Henrique I will be seriously impressed. Maybe Hughes does have the credentials after all. Dismiss everything I have written about the bloke previous to this.
If it's even remotely true (can't see it myself) let's hope he isn't another South American owned by Kia Joorabchian that isn't signed correctly and gets us sued for £25m
I'm REALLY trying SO SO hard not to get too excited with news like this its hard to keep your feet on the ground.
The imminent appointment of Mark Hughes as QPR manager is of course in the news, with the Daily Telegraph reporting that he is keen to sign highly-rated Brazilian Henrique. The 20-year-old striker, who plays for Sao Paulo, was the top scorer at the Under-20 World Cup and has attracted interest from a number of top European clubs. The Daily Mail say Hughes will be given a £20m transfer kitty and wants defender Chris Samba, who he signed while Blackburn boss. Lampard’s future at Stamford Bridge remains in doubt. Samba was a target for Rangers prior to Neil Warnock’s recent sacking, while Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been mentioned as a possible signing. The Sun also suggest Hughes will be handed a £20m budget, while The Daily Express and Daily Mirror say Hughes will get £30m to spend on players, with England forward Darren Bent also a target.
I wouldn't be. Ganso doesn't impress me. He didn't impress me when he played against Barcelona in the Club World Cup, they completely locked him out of the game and he had nothing to do. And he didn't try to get the ball back either. In the Prem, you need players who can do more than just hang around the goal, right, it's much more of a physical team. Besides - I doubt he can bring the likes of Ganso to a smaller club like us. He's only Mark Hughes, with not much of a track record.
It's not the same player! Ganso (Paulo Henrique Ganso) plays for Santos who played in the World Club Cup. Henrique (Henrique Almeida Caixeta Nascentes) who this article refers to plays for Sao Paolo.
Either way, why would those highly-rated Brazillian come all the way to England to play for a small club like us who just barely got promoted? I would want to play for the big names if I'm coming all the way over here. And we wouldn't be able to afford their fees anyway.
I would say welcolm YappyR, but i think after your comments "**** off" is more appropriate, **** off!
Did we not get a highly thought of Argentinian to come and play for us a small club in the second tier of english football. Faurlin has sonce become and proven to be an integral part of the team and a player who has completed the most tackles in the premier league. So all though I think unlikely, there is a chance, as he did bring other Brazilians to England when at Man City.
