For me it depends on the transfer fee. I think simpson has had a solid season so far.
Even if we do get new defensive options would want him in the squad as valuable cover for suspensions and injuries.
If however he is not signing new contract need to get as muh as possible.
We should be looking to build a squad of 23 players of which any are comfortable playing in te PL, we have developed simpson over the last 2 1/2 years into a dependable RB. So not a good move for me unless the price is right

Rumour of Simpson to Fulham. Good. Anyone who thinks he is any use other than standing behind Krul on the line ( which he IS good at) is kidding themselves. Get rid of average and buy quality ( like Santon).

If that was the case why offer him a new contract and not just sell him anyway? Why has everything got to be a conspiracy about the owners greed for money.

I don't think he's a world beater but I do know he has been one of our best players of late bar the Liverpool game. Given how many good players we have, that would suggest he is pretty damn useful to be honest

Agree with this in long term but still need a strong squad so would get a replacement for 1st team but keep simpson for squad

Correct me if im wrong but did he not cost 500k? will be doing well to get a better player than him for that sort of cash

Not many teams have a second string RB who is better than Simpson. I would like somebody better as a starter as well, but he would be a very good squad player

Eh? There is no conspiracy theory here Secret. The club is run by people who want to make money, not by some fairy godmother who just loves us and wants to have all their money. Anybody who thinks Ashley first priority is not to make a profit, quite frankly doesn't understand business very well and can't see the wood for the trees. We sold Andy Carroll for 35m and spent nowhere near that in return. Good I say. He's not in this for love. They have a policy of selling high and buying cheap, taking the odd punt on players others wouldn't. They have also had a certain degree of success with it of late too. I never said that was a negative thing so where owners greed things comes from I'm not sure. I think you're looking for things that aren't there to be honest.

I'm sure they'd like Simpson to sign but that is not all that relevant in the modern game when you are assessing whether they would move him on if they thought they could get a youngster with potential for a cheaper fee. They were of course rumoured to also be ready to offload him when the offer was right last time. Whether that is true I' not sure and what sort of contract he has been offered I'm not sure either. But I suspect if decent money came in and they could get someone in cheaper who they think will do the same job, then they will. This is in contrast to trying to build something long term where you put some of the short term profit making to one side and look to keep people over longer periods for continuity. Its like John O'Shea and Wes Brown. Neither really good enough to be a Man U player, but Ferguson kept them 10 yr because they were loyal and reliable.

What about Tavernier? If Simpson leaves, I would bring him back. Think he's good enough for the first team

His highest level of play has been league One, I seriously doubt he is ready for the first team.

I like what I've seen from Clyne and I think he would be an overall upgrade on Simpson. He's quicker, technically more adept and younger.
I wouldn't want to lose Simpson and replace him with Perch though 'oh oh spoghettio's'

I want to keep him, but if he isn't going to sign the deal then not much we can do but sell.

Keep Simmo for now, he's been a key part of our defence. I think eventually though his arrogance about this new contract might catch him out, I bet Carr already has a replacement lined up if he does leave in the summer.

Clyne is class but I would rather have him, Simpson, Santon and Raylor. Clyne is adept on either side as well.
