Just because Jewell is a nice guy it does not mean it is not his fault.
All his fault clearly not but he manages the team, not Clegg not Evans but Jewell & the team is ****e. At least half of his signings are ****e.

It is easy to ask for Cleggs head cos he is not so visable on a match day, whereas Jewell is on show for 90 mins, it is the Ipsiwch way to be polite, patient & nice.....that will not keep us up, we are on our way down as things stand right now, can any of you really see us getting another 30ish points this season, cos that is going to be around what we need to stay up.

New manager in, even if it is a caretaker, surely he can't be any worse than the last two efforts.

    JEWELL & CLEGG OUT

The cold hard facts are that Jewell has a worse losing % than Keane!

Keane got the bullett exactly a year ago because of where we were in the league! A year on and we are in arguably an even worse position! Under Keane we weren't shipping in 3 goals a game!

Jewell had plenty of opportunity in the summer to get in some decent defenders. It is negligence of the highest order when you consider that we haven't had a proper Right Back at the club for nearly 18 months!

That was the point I was making if your post was aimed in this direction. JWM said 100% Jewells fault which was what I was against.
I would say other than Cresswell and Drury/ Sonko to a lesser degree every one of his signings have underperformed and have not impressed but I would be interested to see who you thought was actually a bad signing at the time?

Tractorbhoy your arguement doesn't hold any water to me! The point is that Jewell made these signings irrespective of what we thought about them! It makes absolutely no difference as to what we thought at the time! The fact is that these signings have proven to be big flops that we are now suffering for. Anyone could have told him that not having a decent right back was a big mistake and playing with 4 CM's was a big mistake!

I think the point that JWM is making is; on the pitch Jewell has to be held responsible, he is the manager, for our players, as a team & individually to keep on making the same mistakes time & time again he has to be held accountable, coach the mistakes out of them, then if they keep ****ing up then don't pick them, but he does.

Off the pitch Clegg is seriously damaging the future club, in almost every aspect, apart from shiny turnsitiles of course, at the moment the two of them go hand in hand, preferebly out of the door..Jewell has made some half decent signings as mentioned but also some shockers, he also admitted to panic buying perseved quick fixes when the summer signing period proved to ba challanging...mistake I think we will all agree.

Not having a dig at you tractorbhoy, although I don't agree on these issues at this time you always put your points of view across well..<ok>

Tractorbhoy Same here mate! <ok> I'm not trying to pick an arguement with you, I respect your opinions eventhough we don't always agree. This is one of the symptoms of supporting a football club that is failing! We are all passionate about the situation and we end up diasgreeing as to the causes etc.

It makes a lot of difference if you ask me because it changes the goalposts. Scouting of a player is basically watching him play and seeing if he can do a job/ add something to your team. The scouting team comes up with exactly the same view point as the fans and everyone is happy but when the player doesnt live up to expectations the fans shout about what a **** signing it was in the first place. How funking hyprocritical is that. Hindsight is a bloody wonderful thing but nobody has it.
Chopra has been as useful as a condom in a nunnery but ask any club or fan at this level last season if they would have wanted him and the answer would have been yes from over 90% I would imagine. I would suggest Bowyer and Bullard would have been similar. Players are automatically absolved from blame if its a new signing yet when it is the likes of Leadbitter and Edwards who are not PJ signings then its the player themselves that gets the blame for letting the club down.

Tractorbhoy even if deep down you know they are a **** signing you have to give them the benefit of the doubt to start with. Take Ellington & Ingimarrson as examples! I must admit alarm bells rang with me when I realised that Cardiff weren't all that fussed about parting with Chopra for a £1 Million! JET is a lazy, luxury player. Hindsight as yous say is a wonderful thing!

Now I have blown a gasket I will go back to rational. Based on the summer signings I would say

Ingi although injury prone done well for Reading last year playing a dozen matches I think. A gamble without doubt but not a bad signing
Ellington, I agree I dont see the sense of. I thought he may have a bit of a physical presence to his play but has rarely featured. Got about a bit in the last home game - thats it
JET, very similar to Martin. Lazy git with talent but hasnt shown it. Think he may have a typical youth at a big club 'made it already' arrogance and a need to work harder is required. If you can increase the workrate you have a player. Not convinced but wont write him off yet but would loan him out to a league 2 ****hole where he will get kicked to buggery just for a reality check
Cresswell - Knew nothing about and has been the only player to constantly impress me
Chopra - Never have been a fan and he hasnt won me around. I can see why we signed him but he does come with too much baggage and it is a transfer the true ITFC would not make
Bullard - Should be class, hasnt shown it - both let down by club in how used and hasnt done himself any favours
Bowyer - the player we signed had energy, bite and was 10x better then Norris who he replaced even given his age. Dont like the guy but he was the player we needed but until the last few matches has been a nobody and has only briefly shown the pedigree that he was showing last seaon
Sonko. Decent signing and played well. Think he needs someone else as a partner as he cant do everything himself and has occassionaly let himself down.

    Have I missed any signings?
Based on thoughts at the time of signing

4 decent signings - Bowyer, Sonko, Bullard and Chopra
3 gambles - Cresswell, JET and Ingi
1 cant see any point - Ellington

    Based on now
1 decent Cresswell and Sonko is good enough for the time being and that its, possibly Jet on still potential

I wont blame poor signings on him as I dont think he made any other than Ellington

For me it's purely about Clegg, not Jewell.

Indeed, I agree with you tractorbhoy!! I have been quiet on these boards the past few days because I just can't be bothered arguing against the rapidly increasing tide that has clearly turned against Jewell now and you JWM seem to have perked up now that we're on another loosing streak, so would be a loosing battle as the concenseus seems to be that he and Clegg should go. Clearly there is a strong argument for this, as not alot is rosy at the club atm but like I said on another post, I'm not as wound up as I have been in previous seasons, because there is a sense of inevitability about the situation we currently find ourselves in, 2 years of mismanagement have not done us any favours.

I find it hard to critisize PJ's transfer policy when taking into consideration the situation the club was in in the summer, out of all his signings none really stick out as a terrible signing especially when comparing them to previous managers, he hasn't wasted money like Jim and especially Keane. Most of his signings were short term and so far they haven't worked out, clearly this was never going to be sustainable but understandable as did he have time considering he hadn't been at the club for a very long period of time to assess what was needed and perhaps splash a fair amount of money on players on longer contracts? also the sheer number of players we needed to get in, we needed(and virtually still need) players in every position. This is no way to build a club and I'm not a fan of getting players towards the end of their career on short term contracts but I can see why he did with the time limitations and number of signings needed to put out a team.

For me the problem atm is the defence, we don't have one good defender, Sonko is ok but not great, Creswell is good but defending is not his strength and other than that anyone else who we play is a liability in defence and there is clearly a lack of continuity at the back. If we get 2 decent CB's in over time this should be rectified and we will hopefully get out of trouble. Any other manager who comes in would have exactly the same problems and may need longer to target players who we need atm, so this may not be the answer.

The one thing IMO you can certainly criticise PJ for is tactically(like alot of managers). Your right tractorbhoy I have never known a season where there have been so many individual mistakes at the back, its just shocking, this can mainly be down to having poor defensive players and a lack of continuity but PJ tactically does not help, for a team who leaks so many goals, Jewell always plays with such an open defence either this is guts or stupidity(I think I know what most of you will say), perhaps sometimes we just need to shut up shop but then do we have good enough defenders to do this?? I still think PJ is a good manager, whether he can do it here who knows, its looking increasingly unlikely!! If PJ would have taken over instead of Keane, I don't think we would be in the same situation we are in now and possibly not even in this league but that is just pure speculation.

As for Clegg, I'm not defending him, I'm not a fan of his but I don't think if he is the major problem, he's not the major reason why things aren't going well at the club. I would not be at all dissapointed to see him leave but its easy to critisize whoever is at the top of the club as this club has consistently done for the past 10 years, with Sheepshanks(who seems to be seen in a much more favourable light now he's left the club). What I am saying is be careful what you wish for, fan pressure has forced many people out of this club over the past few years and the grass has rarely been greener on the other side. Sheepshanks was not flavour of the month for a while, the majority of fans thought he was the problem at the club, at the end of Royles reign a large majority of fans wanted him out, Jim was forced out by media and fan pressure. The person who was least criticised whilst he was at the club was the man who has done more than any other in this clubs history to ruin it and that is Roy Keane!!

I really don't know what the answer to the current situation is. I wish this season would end now and Jewell could then build over the summer, because I genuinely believe he would build a good team but whether he can turn it around this season I do not know. I'm inclined to say we need to sit tight and wait for things to settle down and see who we can get in January. Its a hard call to make!!!

PTC I'm sorry mate but I find that remark beneath contempt! I like all of us on this board am a passionate supporter of Ipswich Town and have been for 40 years. I have only ever wanted the best for this football club and I have spent thousands of pounds in my lifetime supporting this club. For you to basically accuse me of enjoying this situation is contemptable and I hope you will apologise. These are not pleasant times as we are all hurting but accusing me of what amounts to be disloyalty goes one step too far. You may not agree with my views and each to their own. Your approach of just sitting tight and hoping for the best is not an option any more. We need a radical approach now, one that will make this once great club of ours great again. I say bring on the revolution and I will be protesting at Portman Road on Saturday!
