Sunderland Football Club are set to make an approach for Modibo Maiga. The Mali international was heavily linked with Newcastle United in the summer, and he looked to be joining the Magpies this month until he controversially failed his medical. Martin O’Neill is now thought to be interested in adding Maiga to his Black Cats squad, but Sochaux have revealed they hope the 24-year-old will snub the Premier League and remain with them. "In his commitment levels, I have noticed a big change," the chairman of the French club, Alexandre Lacombe, told L'Equipe. "We rely on him and we now have a common interest."
