You're truly an amusing little fellow. I'm honestly still chuckling at the comment above. How proud your mummy and daddy must be

It seems that most of the posters on this site are not match going fans because if you were you would realise that Rooney is the best player at United by a country mile ! When watching a match on TV or lap top etc, it is impossible to see the amount of work Rooney gets through " off the ball ". He was sorely missed against Blackburn and yes had a bad game at Newcastle ( I was there ! ) but he is still head and shoulders above any other player on our books. Rather than thinking about selling Rooney we should be building a team around him but where can we find another Robson, Keane , Cantona etc. I have posted in the past that Rooney would make the perfect attacking midfielder for United but I think we we still need a couple of "class" players to improve our first team. It is a well used cliche but when Rooney plays well United play well, the perfect example being on Wednesday night !

I make you right, by a country mile your best Player, but there is definitely something in the air with Rooney, he doesn't look like a Player enjoying his football, and hasn't done for a season or two.

The one thing that seemed to separate Rooney from the other Greedy Leaguers, is you got the impression he would play for free. That has gone.

United won the Title last year, with an average at best squad, a great testiment to SAF of course, and here again you are in the running, but there is a clear need for major investment in the 1st Team and squad in general, and perhaps he's just feeling like Fergie's best days (by that I mean his reign) are behind him and the lad himself has his best days ahead, and on that basis, is he just treading water, when he could be doing something, somewhere else, more dynamic?

    Just asking.

Thing about Rooney which stops him becoming a world class player is his attitude, the guy had his own tv show, was in that awful advert and spends too much time out of football doing other things, he is never just concentrated on playing football, while the world class players only ever do anything like that after they've won all they could win and celebrate, which you should do.

End of the day, this is their job, if i go out before coming into work in the morning and i'm hungover and useless then my boss would have my ass, players need to think the same thing, when Rooney is seen going out before a match recently he should be rightly dropped, before any match you should get a good sleep ahead of a match.

But i'm leaving the point here, honestly think it would be the best option to sell him, i think Chelsea would try and grab him if for sale, he can play on the RW as he did when Ronaldo was there which leaves Mata through the middle, he best role, if i saw a attacking team sheet as this:

    --------Mata----------
    Rooney-Torres-Sturridge

    I would be terrified.

Vidic is 30 now and is currently out for the whole season, he could come back like Rio which would leave your whole team in dire needs.

But, you are Manchester United and players would be gagging to come to your team, you can get anyone you want if you got something like 50 million for him.

    Desperation?

I remember people making the same "he's not enjoying his football and looks like he wants to leave" comments about Ronaldo at the start of the 06/07 season. How did that work out again? <laugh>

    <laugh>

    I'd find

    ---------Mata--------
    Rooney-----------Nani
    -Hernandez / Welbeck-

much more terrifying. What're the odds on us getting Mata off Chelsea if they finish fifth this season? ;) That said, Gotze, Hazard or Ganso would fit the bill just as well <ok>

Has it been mentioned yet that Rooney almost left you a year ago because of reservations over team strengthening? Perhaps he's not been too impressed with your lack of spending in the transfer window and will look elsewhere? Not a dig. To be frank I don't think he's as essential to you as he once was and you should snap up any offer above 40 million.

Love how you got Eboue in there <ok>

To be honest, the main difference between being world class and a great of the game appears to be winning an international trophy. Had Rooney been born Spanish, and been in the WC winning team, then I reckon people would be talking about him as a potential great already, even if he hadn't made a huge contribution.

I don't agree. I wouldn't call Puyol world-class. In my opinion, great players can rise to the occasion at any level. Baggio and Zidane, to name but 2, dragged their teams to latter stages of tournaments when without them they would have been mediocre at best. When the chips are down, these are the players you turn to. Rooney has shown, on the biggest stage, that he can't handle the pressure and will either under-perform, get himself sent off or both. He'll then complain when fans boo his mediocre performances.

Rooney has scored against City, arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham this season, so those aren't big games? Obviously he isn't a "Great" of the game as he hasn't dragged his country through an international tournament, but very few players have and even then that doesn't constitute world class. Would you consider Landon Donavon a "Great" of the game just because he has on numerous occasions dragged the USA to finish line? He is the best American Footballer to ever play IMO, but he's not world class or even a "Great" of the game.

Many view Rooney's temperament as his biggest weakness, but can you imagine Rooney playing without emotions? The same emotions that cause him to immaturely lash out at the same emotions that drive him to rush back to his 18 win the ball back and start the next attack. Without his temperament he'd be a less effective player.

You've just given the reasons why he's not world class. As for scoring against those teams, that merely makes him premiership class. Your Landon Donovan analogy is very poor as he has never dragged the US to world cup semi-final or final. Think more Cruyff, Maradona, Baggio, Platini, Cannavaro, etc.

The truth is that Rooney has the potential but he bottles it. He just doesn't have that special something that world-class players have. I hope he proves me wrong but nothing so far has indicated that he will.
