We need the 3 keepers as back up (pity we can't play them at the same time).

As if it wasn't bad enough that we don't develop our own players, we are now developing our rivals players!

ALB isn't great and neither is Wright but there are far more pressing issues in the playing squad which need to be adressed urgently, however I just don't sense any urgency in Clegg or Jewell's actions, I'm starting to think relegation is part of this 5 year plan!

Don't know why you lot are complaining. Signed a top class 'keeper in McCarthy. Did brilliantly for us when Lonners was injured and is a future England first choice if ever I saw one.

    Thanks Simon.
TBH, I dont think it is anything against the guy but more a general disillusion about all things that the club are involved in currently. Poor results, bad performance and a general malaise are giving some fans a rather doomed outcast at present.
The other problem is that no matter how good he is it is still only a loan and no club can survive long term on loans. I, for one, am quite happy about this deal and hope it means we can spend money elsewhere (DEFENCE!!!!) but no matter how good he is it isnt the type of signing we need to give everyone a boost.
PS - good to see a human Leeds fan, must be unusual to be one of the few decent ones about.

Did you actually read what Jewell said last week about making mistakes including the signing of too many loanees? I mean to say not even a week later and he goes and brings in a reserve keeper from a rival club on a 3 month loan with a 24 hour recall clause! I mean **** ME what sense does this make? Jewell is a complete bloody imbecile or does he suffer from memory loss? It is now clear that the idiot doesn't have a bloody clue and is just running in any direction hoping to find a solution to the problems that he created. Whatever happened to actually owning a few players outright instead of relying on loaning other clubs players? We might as well just become an academy for other clubs players to develop before going back to their clubs. This smacks of desperation!

Its not the player, its this whole situation. Why the **** should we let a rival club blood in their 3rd choice keeper at our expense! plus going after a norwich reject is almost admitting that they have cocked up.

There is something rotten going on at our club!

Not desperation at all and I will consider it sensible until we have finished with our dealings this window. Your not going to get a top class keeper without a recall in his contract unless the loaning club is very fortunate in having 4 very good keepers in their squad.
GK is also not the position that I think requires strengthening as a matter of urgency so a loan keeper and putting our money towards a top class central defender makes perfect sense to me.
Can you actually see us being able to sign (actually sign) a top class keeper in the January window without paying stupid money? Would you actually like us to continue this season with only ALB & Wright as the only experienced Keepers in the squad. If the answer to both these is NO then it makes sense.
If the rest of the window transfers dont make sense I will join the despair but until then I will welcome this move.

How can Clogg, Jewell or even ME for that matter claim that they are building a plan for the future when everything that is happening is based on short term loans! We all slagged off Keane for his lack of man management skills and rightly so. Now we have Jewell who offered Healy a 2 year contract only for it to be terminated within the first 3 months. He brings in the crock Ingimarrson who then has his contract terminated after 5 months. You just can't run a football club like this certainly not a successful one that wants to go places.

I don't think ALB has done to bad, Has anybody forgot he kept us in the game against Derby? if it weren't for him against Burnley it would have been another seven goal horror show. Fans are blaming him for the 2nd goal on saturday, but to be honest his positioning wasn't that bad, it was a good starting position for any type of cross, i would blame the defenders for not closing down the hull player if anything. But now the damage is done, his confidence will be shot to bits, PJ might aswell cancel his contract!

This is just another pointless signing, sort the defence out before looking at the keeper. We could have Edwin van der sar in goal and it would make no difference in the goals against column.

This GK deal will certainly shoot to bits any last confidence ALB has! He must be really pissed off to see yet another loan keeper come in to take the no1 slot ahead of him. Poor, poor management yet again from Jewell.

Exactly JWM, people on here saying "oh, every club wants 3 keepers".
Well we had 2 keepers on saturday ALB and wrighty. we get another loan in, ALB confidence is shot to pieces so we still only really have 2 worthwhile keepers! ****ing well done PJ.

True Guru. I have nothing against ALB and hope we have on got a new keeper in for competition rather than as a definate replacement for ALB. Even if his positioning wasnt great on Saturday it would be the first time I can recall him this season being at fault

I rate ALB. He has all the potentials to be a solid keeper at this level, but like everyone else has said, he will have absolutely no confidence in himself thanks to that idiot - Mr PJ!!

Just to clarify my point, I welcome his arrival based on squad competition and NOT him taking the shirt from ALB, who I think is fairly blameless this season.
Sorry Midlander for being rude and I pass on the same welcoming sentiments as JWM. I hope you know what you have let yourself into joining this forum! I take it by your name that you are lucky enough not to get to PR very often!

No, unfortunately (Correct word to use??!!) not. Been up a few times though. I do try and catch them as much as possible when they come down here though!

I agree, healthy competition is a good thing, but constantly signing new keepers on ridiculous short loan deals will sure kick any confidence out of poor ALB! I hope for his sake that he knows the defence is an utter shambles, and PJ making constant changes in between the sticks will put a rather smug look on ALB's face!

    On TWTD...

    "Town Confirm McCarthy Loan
    Mon 09th Jan 2012 10:05
Town have confirmed that Reading keeper Alex McCarthy is joining on a three-month loan. The 22-year-old, who has also signed a new deal at the Madejski Stadium, is joining up with the squad this morning while the paperwork is finalised and is expected to make his debut at Birmingham on Wednesday, wearing the number 32 shirt.

While joining the Blues for the short-term, McCarthy has also reaffirmed his longer term commitment to Reading, putting pen to paper on a contract until 2015, something he says he was delighted to do: "This is excellent for me, it's a nice secure feeling to know that you have years behind you and I'm really looking forward to the future.

"I had a good spell in the team last season and this is a great club to be at, great lads, great staff, a great manager. I've got great respect for [manager] Brian [McDermott] - he's done wonders for me.

"Leeds are a rival club in terms of going up this season, and he didn't have to do let me go on loan there, but he knew I wanted to go out and play and he had my best interests at heart. So I have to thank him for letting me do that.

"Everyone always comments about the goalkeepers here [at Reading] because we've got such a great group. All of us want to be playing of course, and being a goalkeeper that's not possible - and that's why I've taken more time out to go on loan. But eventually I do want to be playing my football here."

Guildford-born 6ft 4in-tall England U21 cap McCarthy came through the Royals’ youth system and has had prior loan spells at Woking, Cambridge United, Team Bath, Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town and Brentford, in addition to a six-game spell at Leeds in November and December last year.

McCarthy’s spell runs until April 11th, while Reading will have a 24-hour emergency recall option after the first month, as is usual with short-term loans."

    Didn't mention us at all!!

Why have we signed (on loan, of course), a **** like this??

**** off back to Reading, you obviously love the place!

    Un-****ing-believable!
