    The lad isnt that bad.

He should have been used as an impact sub. None of us would hate him so much if he had been used properly.

Hmm I'm not sure the respective abilities as footballers of the folk on not606 is all that relevant when discussing whether Gabriel Obertan is much cop..........

He should come on as an impact sub. It's clear that his confidence and mentality are the problem. Coming on for the last 10-15 mins against tired legs means he could beat more people thus raising his self belief that he can do it.

The line up for the next game should be IMO

    ----Shola------Best-----

    Jonas-------------Hatem

    --Guthrie*----Cabaye---

    Santon-Colo--Willo--Simpson

    -----------Krul-------------

    <ok>

*If not fit then start Abeid.

There has been other players who have played worse than Obertan has. Raylor has had some shockers and doesn't get abused, Best has been gash recently and don't get me started on Perch.

Not saying we should boo those players, but for some reason it is always Obertan who gets the stick even though Jonas' crossing and attacking has been just as poor as Obertan's has over recent weeks (Blackburn excluded)

I'm surprised Pardew hasn't tried playing Obertan in the middle, where there's generally more space to run into. Obertan's pace coupled with Cabaye's precise passing could hurt many teams... And even if he's not scoring I think that he could use his acceleration to win us freekicks ...

I think that's his best position - maybe we will move Hatem to the right and Obertan behind Best/Shola

he's only young and lacks confidence, but he has pace & skill. I think he'll come good.

I think the treatment of Obertan in the stands is absolutely shocking. Makes me embarrassed hearing that from the clubs own supporters.
What good at all can come out of booing your own players? Its pathetic. Wish these set of so called 'supporters' just stayed at home.

Fair enough people might not think he's good enough at this moment in time to be starting, but encourage the lad. What does anyone gain from booing one of their own?

I've always wanted Ben Arfa out wide and im glad this looks like its going to start happening now. Im not going to go off on a tangent about Ben Arfa and his role though since this is about Obertan. I think its pretty obvious that Obertan would be much better used later on in the game, taking a forward off and putting someone like Obertan on in his place to play in the whole just to chase down defenders.

It seemed to make a big difference against Man Utd putting Best on for Shola, so youve got one of them that chases people down and then Obertan came on later just pressuring their defence into making mistakes.

Im not sure whether Obertan will ever get this 'football brain'... but he definitely deserves time. People forget he's only 22. He was hardly a mega money spending either.

He is perhaps the most frustrating player I've seen play for NUFC, as much so as Shola. Clearly has potential but is so fragile mentally that he's afraid to try to exert any influence on the game. He just has absolutely no footballing brain whatsoever, he should be making runs dragging defenders away to make more space for the central midfielders and his fullback to exploit but he doesn't he just stands around like a ****ing lemon. Having said this, while I understand (totally) people are angry that he still starts the vast majority of games when he's played well in maybe three in half a season, abusing him (pretty shocking abuse too) isn't going to help anyone especially not him considering his mental fragility.

The bottom line though is that his constant inclusions make a mockery of Pardew's 'there on merit' team selection principle, there comes a time when you have a wield the axe for the good of the team. Ben Arfa was brilliant there so he should get the nod, although there are things to consider where Arfa's concerned - such as not helping Simpson and leaving him exposed. I'd take it right now though because Obertan is completely ruining our attacking game whenever he is on the pitch.

To compare Best and Raylor performances this season is pretty insulting. Raylor has had a good season. He has had one or two shockers but when you consider he has simply been playing out of position for the sake of the team, it puts those odd poor shows in perspective. He has won us plenty points with his free kicks, crosses and blocks/tackles. Best hasn't been at his best since injury and has struggled to break back in and get some rhythm but I thought he did well early doors. Jonas can't even be compared with Obertan after his super human efforts early doors.

I don't agree with abuse or being too down on him but the bare facts he are he has frustrated and disappointed. I think more than anything else for me, all the others look like natural footballers with some sort of footballing nous. Obertan is lightening quick but I'm sure how much is going on upstairs. I'll keep hoping but the lad needs taken out for his good at present. Reminds me of David Bellion.

    I personally don't think he's a winger - think he a second striker

He is a confidence player in his first full season for us. The time to judge is the end of the season in my opinion.

Played all his formative football at Bordeaux as part of a front 3. I've said a few times, he'd be maybe better like that where he is more of a luxury and its all more instinctive.
