Captain has made a fantastic point. Even in his short time with us he got Dembele and Sidwell. 2 great signings. He was a good manager.
FFC4L nobody disagrees on that. Being a good manager and an tw*t at the same time do not exclude each other. I liked him as a manager and was in favour of him joining in 2010 but his comments when he left were too much to take...
QPR????? Really. Hardly the ambitious step he was touting when he left. Guess it's humble pie given Villa / Chelsea didn't want him. As a manager his record is OK and I like the guy from when he played for us but I do hope he takes QPR down!!
And this And Captain, I totally understand your boredom of talking about Hughes - but being a traditional Brit I could talk all day about people I don't like! Now, that Bandit bloke...
I think hughes wants to be around the London scene waiting for the big one. Chelsea,Arsenal.Spurs. ???
Hughes is a bit like Hodgson in the way that both overachieved with relatively small clubs (Fulham, Blackburn) were given their shot at the big time (Liverpool, City) and blew it. Both will have to prove themselves at lesser clubs if they ever want to hit those heady heights again, which is why Hughes was a fool to leave really, we were 8th and if he had finished another season in a similar position the big clubs would have been sniffing around. Personally I don't see either managing a top 6 side again in their careers.
And the mortgage on his big house in Chelsea. Oh, and getting fed up with his 4 unemployed mates (Bowen, Hodges, Hitchcock and Niedzwiecki) scrounging loans - I believe QPR also sacked Warnock's backroom team.
Whatever either side may say, Hughes to QPR is just a marriage of convenience. QPR need someone to keep them up, and I'm sure Hughes and his entourage can do that. Hughes now realises he left Fulham too soon and knows he has to eat some humble pie and get back into top flight management with whoever will have him. First he was waving his arms around shouting 'pick me, pick me' when the job at cash-strapped Sunderland came up, now he has to resort to taking on a relegation fight when he could be sitting comfortably mid-table with Fulham. What he's really eying up are the jobs that may become available in the Summer: Spurs if Harry takes the England job, Chelsea if AVB fails to get a top-4 finish, even Newcastle if Pardew succeeds Rednap at White Hart Lane.
I could never see Spuds going in for Pardew, they will most likely be in the Champions League next season and will want a manager with CL experience.
I thought Roy had lined him up, when hughes took over he pulled the plug on the deal, but then took him in Jan anyway? Dembele was scouted through Man City(but they must have decided against it). Not sure he can really take the credit for either signing.
My point wasn't that Hughes did well in finding Dembele and Sidwell, it was that finding undervalued players in the transfer market is one of his strengths as a manager, and that the timing of both his arrival (no fault of his) and departure (no fault of anyone but him) meant we didn't get the benefit of it. I think he'll keep QPR up, though I won't shed a tear if he doesn't. When I heard that QPR had sacked Warnock AND his backroom staff, I wondered if that meant that Hughes and co had already been lined up.
It's seem to be a deal now, so lets make sure we push them to the right direction both!!! Mark Hughes has told QPR he needs £30m to pull them clear of relegation and chase a list of targets headed by Aston Villa's Darren Bent and Chelsea's Didier Drogba. From the Express...
I think that's about as realistic as our recent thread about Ray Houghton, Johnny Haynes et al coming out of retirement!
