    What's wrong with that?

Should we damn him for everytime a new product is released? Should he give us all a copy for free?

I know people don't like Ashley but bemoaning the fact that he's trying to generate and maximise revenues from the club shop with new products is harsh.

I've just seen an advert on TV for M&S showcasing new ready meals but I'm not going to buy it * because they are just after my money.

    * Real reason not buying them is because it's angel haired pasta and not 'pastry' and the 'samosa crust' is a bloody popadom!

That's our fault not his, unless you're really angry at the Pokemon folk. It's massively cliche to say 'you don't have to buy it', but seriously, you don't have to buy it.

If there's demand he'd be a fool not to satisfy it.

Each to their own I think he makes enough out of our fans. It doesn't really bother me because I'm not daft enough to keep giving him my money for something that is not very hard to get a hold of. If people are stupid enough to keep handing over the money then he will continue to take their cash. I don't have a problem with them doing it, its the way they run their business. If that is how they wish to make their cash, that is fine.

I'm not having the M&S analogy either personally, integrity being the difference. Their integrity is not damaged by them advertising there products. They operat in world where that is how business is done and no less is thought of you. This article being created tells you this is not normal in football and shows the way other fans view this sort of crass greed for cash.

Maybe it is more common place in football than I know, but I'd be surprised if clubs of a similar stature to ours, like an Everton or Villa say, would be pulling such a stunt because they would view it as a bit crass and cheap. I agree. To be honest I doubt you'd get any club in the country putting out a DVD if they beat Man U 3-0 at home.

Each to their own but I'd prefer we didn't do this sort of thing.

Integrity for me Colly but as I say I didn't come in on the last boat so I it doesn't really affect me because I'm not thick enough to throw good money after bad.

Quite crowded, I think there are a fair few who are not daft enough to start handing over money for a DVD of a match it's not hard to get hold of! I have it sky plussed as I'm sure many have and getting it from there to DVD is not that tricky I'd imagine. (???) And bar watching the goals, unless you have a penchant for watching the ball fly long distances, I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble. Therefore unless you have no internet access, why would you not just get it on the net? Bizarre for me but each to their own.

Edit: I imagine Fat Sam will be lapping them up and sitting saying to himself "I knew I was right, long ball does work"

We aren't a very big club though, this shows it. Big support yes, big club no. Cringed when I saw a DVD was coming out, thoroughly enjoyed the game at the time but can't see why anyone who had already seen the game would want to buy it.

So what? If people are stupid enough to buy it then why not? People create the market not business, it's like when people bitch about the content of the rags yet still buy them and create a market in which they can thrive. No one can say they wouldn't do the same in his position.

I didn't mean people not buying it, as I won't be. I was referring to 'last boat' and 'thick enough' comments which I found uncalled for. We didn't hoof it all game and our possession was pretty good, I'd not be against watching it again. As I deleted it from my v+ box and don't want to download a shoddy illegal version the DVD would be a decent option. Just because someone might want it doesn't make them stupid.

See my response above to Colly/Overseas. Its about integrity for me but each to their own. You can view us as being crass and greedy like I imagien the rest of the country will view this stunt, or you can see as smart business sense. In the modern business world he's done nothing new, there is very little integrity left when it comes to making money. I just hold our club to higher standards. Its about having a touch of class rather a touch of crass for me.

Fair enough I sort of agree. It is very tacky and I admit I cringed a bit when I heard about it but I have no problem with someone taking advantage of a situation like this to make money, it doesn't really harm anyone and if people are silly enough to buy it then so be it. Won't really damage the 'integrity' of the club just shows we aren't as big as we think we are.

Pretty sure Peterborough released a DVD when they beat us 2-0 <laugh>

It was nothing special. We played as much long ball in that game as any under Pardew. I don't mind it was a specific tactic which was very effective and got us three valuable points. Would I want us playing like that every week? Certainly not. Therefore do I consider that particular game a great watch like when we won 5-0 playing wonder football? No.
By this reasoning though you might aswell bring out a DVD of every game when we beat a bigger side than us that we haven't beaten for awhile.

The thick enough comment was probably a bit harsh but then I probably didn't really explain properly which group of people I was talking about. Its fair enough that you have intelligence so you'll make a reasoned judgement on whether to buy it and Ashley will struggle to prey on you. But about all the not so bright Newcastle fans who just buy it out of blind faith? Nobody can pretend they don't exist, most of us would admit to being blinded by club loyalty at some point in the past and purchasing something we shouldn't have just because it was Newcastle. The point I was making about the last boat was really about those people who just aren't that smart and buy things out of blind love. I think you lack integrity if you take advantage of that when you're running a football club. The paying public put an awful lot of money through the club, do they really need to exploit every opportunity? If you think they do then why don't other clubs do likewise? Valuing your support is important I think.

What has integrity got to do with it? The club have an opportunity to make money and they will do. I'm sure there will be Newcastle fans all over the world
who were unable to see this game and would happily buy it. In fact, if the club released a Dvd after every game I'm sure some people would still buy it.
I personally wont be buying it but I won't judge others that do either.

I believe our club should have integrity. I see this as impinging on it, you don't, as I say each to their own. As for judging others, what I meant was explained in the post above regarding fans who are maybe not as bright as someon here who will make a reasoned choice. I don't believe in fleecing the clubs fans, we put enough into the club. That's what I see this as. As for those who missed it, it was nothing special as a game of football barring two absolute magnificent goals. I personally would not spend x amount to watch two goals. I could understand it when we won 5-0 playing spellbinding football, but 3-0 with long ball tactics? Not for me. As I said in earlier post, by this kind of reasoning you will bring out a DVD everytime we beat one of the top 6 convincingly. In my opinion they have just looked at how well the 5-0 DVD sold which had something special about it, and thought I wonder if we could pass the 3-0 off as something special? These daft ****s will buy it. That is exploiting your loyal fan base for me.

And do you not think this will be a source of amusement to other clubs fans a up and down the land? Of course it will, nothing says little club mentality like this.

I can take derby games and spellbinding games like the 5-0 no problem. They are special times for any fan. But just beating one of the top 4 seems a bit too far for me. Trust Sunderland to have joined us doing such crass things! As I say I don't like it, but given no hard earned cash will leave my wallet I won't get too upset. I might comment that I think its a bit sly but its not like I'll writing out a banner about it to take to the ground!

I was at the game and thouroughly enjoyed it, but even if it hadn't been a great game it would have been worth seeing for the Jones own goal.

It was one of the best laughs I've had at a football match in ages. I'd buy the DVD just to watch that over and over again.
