Chris Smalling is another. The point being that many clubs dont give lower league players a chance when some could well step up to the mark. If Nick is looking for a goal scorer (away from Sharp) then Matt Tubbs ticks all the boxes. imo.

Are you trying to mention Tubbs in every post you make on this thread?! We get it, you want us to sign Matt Tubbs!

Dunno, Lester fans had similar thoughts regarding CS, as with ourselves I don't think Crawley NEED to sell so it would probs cost more than that, which imho would be too much of a gamble

Chris Smalling is a long way off being a non league player in past his mid twenties.

He was signed by a Premier League club when he was 18.

It was the principal i was referring to more than the age. There are many players both lower league and non league that could play at a higher level. I remember Ian Rush moving from the old Chester club to Liverpool and Steve Coppell from Tranmere to Man Utd as classic examples. I bet there are many more gems at lower league clubs that have not even been looked at.

Yeovil didn't get into the league until about 2003.

Hello folks first post on here so go easy on me. I don't think that because a player is a regular scorer at one level it means they can transfer that to a higher standard of football. Take Gary Bradshaw as an example who has had a few goes at league football and failed , but season after season scores plenty at a lower level with North Ferriby. Maybe it's more to do with the mental side of the game the higher the standard the higher the pressure.

That's true, but there are always players that do make the step up. As an example Ian Wright wasn't discovered until he was almost 22 when he was signed from Palace from non-league. I think at the time Palace were in the equivalent of the Championship?

    ps, welcome William

Does Ryan France fit this discussion? BTW I'd take a punt on Liam Hearn.

Francey scored 45 in 199 games from the right wing for Alfreton Town, he scored 6 in 133 games for us and the that was in League Two and League One, which probably gives some perspective to this.

I think people are getting carried away with Matt Tubbs, yes Matt Tubbs is a scorer, he's got potential Matt Tubbs, the boy is playing very well Matt Tubbs and we'll get a chance to see Matt Tubbs play at the KC. Maybe after the game Nick will have a word with Crawley about Matt Tubbs and see if Matt Tubbs wants a contract with the Tigers..

I don't doubt that there are some undiscovered talents in the lower / non leagues , but I think nowadays teams in the championship and above are less inclined to take the risk on a player who will maybe take a while to get used to the pace, fitness and pressure required at the higher levels.:emoticon-0150-hands thanks for the welcome.
