I admit I'v never been to Anfield. But I'd love to, and will do. I inherited my Liverpool fanhood from my mother. Doesnt mean I'm any less of a fan. But that United City game definitely felt different to me.
The atmosphere didn't seem nasty at all. There were boos for players and a lot of noise, but that's what always happens in a tight game between rivals. Nothing was thrown, none of the abuse crossed the line and there was never any risk of violence amongst the fans. That said, I was distracted from the game quite a lot by the Hammerhead shouting "you ****s" at the screen every time a Utd player got the ball...
You'd enjoy it mate, sooner or later you will end up going, and once you go once, twice you wont be able to stop, you will be hooked, like me!! Dont expect too much as some games are quieter, but that feeling where you get goosebumps and the hairs stick up on the back of your neck has happened to me more at Anfield than it has in the rest of my life put together.A truly special place!!!
what do you expect - jumpers for goalposts, oranges at half time? Ryan Giggs on the wing, Giggsy Wiggsy Giggsy!
Maybe I was harsh on you lad but the truth is in these big games the atmosphere gets like this. It can feel nasty. Then again, once you've been to these type of games you don't want to go to any other, trust me it is why most of us are hooked on the game.
When I was a kid I'd ask to go every year for my birthday but my parents could never afford it. And in reply to the replies to my earlier point. Every one done well not to step out of line. It was tense, but every one showed how professional they are. I was most worried with the Milner and Ferdinand foul, but they both walked away. Nah its cool. I often feel inferia or jelous when people talk about there Anfield moments. I live in Kent. I often watch F.A. cup draws chanting 'Gillingham away, Gillingham away' as they are my closest team.Thats still a good hour or more away though. Serious lack of Football around here. Most people support Liverpool or United down here. Partly due to the minors moving down from the north I believe.
Agree with you there, the biggest game I went to was Chelsea in the CL Semi 2007 when my uncle couldn't go he gave me his ticket. I only get into Cat B/C games these days and it's like a crematorium in comparison.
