Chris Hoy must be bracing himself for another torrent of abuse after this :D

In all seriousness he's a poor ref but there are so many of them in the PL these days. I don't think he's a fixing the game though, he just turned down a stonewall pen for United.

Sorry but there's no way that was a penalty, it's gone through his legs clipping the bottom of his thigh and hit the arm. It has to be intentional and there's no way Jones either knew it was going to hit his arm all along or had the reactions to move his arm out of the way once it bounced off his leg.

Still lets hope City get a late equaliser and take this to a replay!

Nah I see a ruck of penalties every week that are never intentional <ok> if he hadn't handled it, deliberate or not, it was going past the keeper across the six yard line so fair to say a goal scoring chance was denied. No offence but this has been an absolute shocker from Chris Foyguson.

You do get them given but that doesn't mean it's right. Handball is the only rule where it has to be intentional and not just that they gained advantage from it. Cole's against us in the run up to Chelsea's equaliser is a prime example, Parker tackled the ball away but it hit Cole's arm to stop it going out and was sent perfectly ahead of him to continue the attack.

Last man's not a rule anymore is it? I guess it depends on where the other defenders are as to whether it was a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Jones walked off pointing to his chest even though it never. He knew he handballed it and was guilty as sin. Lucky buggers once more.

It does. If you have the opportunity to pull your arm away then it's a handball, I don't see what was unnatural about Phil Jones' arm position though, he needs it to balance.

Yeah you say it has to be intentional but like I say that's a rule that's rarely applied these days whether you think it should be or not and funny how manure get these decisions so often. The red was a farce, no arguments with the pen decision but game was killed by the sending off. Had that been a tackle by a manure player I honestly don't think City would even have been given a free kick for it <ok> anyway City out the cup and they're much stronger than manure, plus Kompany to miss semi of the Cup (I presume) so as I said before...every cloud etc etc

I didn't see any other players in the picture either and my instinct was that it had to be a red card. He's not playing the ball directly towards goal so potentially there could have been a player that gets back in time. That's why I'd like to see if there was any other players near enough to get back.

I was a genuine neutral today and I didn't care who won. The main thing wrong with the ref today was his inconsistency, He gave a red card which I thought was a foul at best, and nothing for a similar tackle by De Jong towards the end of the first half. He gave a penalty which to be fair was, and then didn't give a similar one to United in the second half, and again for the hand ball.

Luckily despite Uniteds ultra defensive tactics with a man advantage, City managed to make it an interesting game

I agree that it does get given but I don't think it's right. The red was poor but it was definitely reckless and dangerous, if the FA rescind it after turning down the Milijas appeal, that will be the real farce. United certainly get more of the contraversial decisions going there way and I won't argue with that. How Webb missed the Ba penalty last week I don't know... oh wait I do, he's the most biased ref in the Premiership.

Can't believe they didn't show replays of either incident after the game <steam>

I'm personally glad Utd won as it means the better Manchester team are out of the next round draw :)
