The result - I thought Man Utd were excellent first half but City did very well to comeback. Man Utd looked to play keep ball instead of trying to finish City off and it nearly cost them.

Red Card - All players know that if you go in 2 footed you run the risk of being sent off so I think Kompany's tackle was silly. Having said that, I do think the red card was harsh as he won the ball and didn't take the player.

Penalties - Man Utd should have had a penalty for a foul on Valencia in the 2nd half (even the most bitter ABU would be hard pressed to argue with that). City could have had a penaltu of their own. The ball did strike Phil Jones' arm but I think it would have been harsh given that the ball was hit hard at him.

Considering I expected us to take a beating it was a good afternoon overall.

Why not just put this into the match thread? Now a load of wums are probably on the way after seeing the title of this thread.

If I put my thoughts on the match thread only one or 2 people would see them.

Phil jones incident was NOT a penalty by any stretch of the imagination. The ball struck his leg first, and then hit his arm. No pen. Valencia was definitely fouled so united should of had another.

    This <ok>

Tho' Kompany for me was definitely not a red card. He look his feet off the floor, but didn't lunge at Nani and there was no real risk of injury. Worse it could have been was a yellow for playing in a dangerous manner which prevented Nani trying to get the ball. It was a bad call, but we got the break and took it.

For me it is not just about progressing in the FA cup. It is more about beating City on their ground and also showing others they are not invincible there.

I think City will have a hard January (he says in hope). Kompany out for 3 matches but also their other key player Yaya Toure (who did much of the damage against United in previous matches) is away. City is NOT the same without these 2 players.

So the sending off may also affect the premiership too. I think City's task of winning that first premiership has been made much harder. It is also up to United to capitalise.

Very true. Also gives us a psychological edge when we play City in the league, which could be a vital match in the title race.

City are going to appeal, and probably have a decent chance of getting Kompany back imo. But if the ban is upheld then I can see City dropping points to Spurs. Unfortunately one of the banned matches will be in the CC and the other is against Wigan, so it's unlikely to have a huge impact.

So will Kompany miss the CC against the scousers? In sending him off the ref has helped the bl****y scousers. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

No wonder they are keeping quiet about this. They think they have now a good chance of beating City! To be honest City has very good players in every position but can be stopped without Kompany and Yaya Toure.

Phil Jones incident a 100% definite penalty. The ball hit his right arm which was holding him up.

If you put your arm on the ground in order to position your body in a way to clear the ball it is a foul if it hits your arm. Looked as if his left arm then hit it out for a corner even.

The result still stands UTD win 3-2, handball or not, City are out and the Chavs are a spent force.

And should have been a definite penalty against Kolarov barging Valencia in the penalty area. So 1 pen each... Should have been 4-1.

I would have liked a 5-0 or 6-0 but a victory at Etihad has done the most important psychological damage on City not the FA cup run which I think this season will peter out for United. The other psychological impact is a defeat as soon as Yaya Toure is not playing...

It's brilliant Utd won as it means the better Manchester side are now out of the 4th round draw :)

United has shown to all that City can be beaten at home. yes, did a good job for all the other teams but won't have a long run in the FA cup I predict...

Mainly due to the ludicrous red card, but fair play to Utd they did manage to hold on at the end (with 11 men against 10 <laugh>)
