3.20 Southwell La Capriosa 4/1 La Capriosa looks a great price to me and is another Scott Dixon new recruit. Dixon's early start to his career reads 4 wins and 3 places from 13 runners and this 6 times course winner looks on a very good mark despite not winning in over a year, although at 6 he is very unlikely to have lost a huge amount of ability. He seemed to be coming back to form LTO when beaten 3.25L over 5f at the course and he's been dropped a further lb for that effort and now races off 66. With his last win coming off a mark of 72 and the immediate improvement Dixon has gotten from most of his runners then he looks very nicely handicapped to strike. Robert Winston is an eye catching booking who has his first ride for the trainer but who was on board for 8 of La Capriosa's 10 wins so its seems clear that the trainer is booking a jockey who is familiar with the horse. This represent Dixon's only runner tomorrow and as he already has 3 winners at the track in his very short career I'm having a decent sized bet at what I see is a very fair price and I think he'll be very hard to beat with a good draw in stall 2.
Its worth bearing in mind that Scott Dixon has just taken over Dandy's satellite yard and has the same staff as Dandy did. My four today are 12.50 The Magic Of Rio 2.50 Wicked Wench 3.20 Clear Ice EW 3.50 Takajan EW All on the blog
Not that much to go at today but I do really like Charlie Longsdon's Up To Something (NAP) in the Hereford Bumper. On debut over 1m5f he rallied really gamely to get the better of Kevin Ryan's Flaming Arrow, who has since gone on to run with credit in the Class 1 Bumper at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. By Brier Creek, who has sired the likes of Rebel Du Maquis, Edgbriar and Palypso De Creek, the step up to 2m1f should really suit and the early 11/8 with Bet365 looks a nice price. David Pipe's Chartreux looks a warm order in the 2.00 but I just have a sneaking feeling that Brackloon High might edge him after staying on really well over 2m6f on chase debut last time. Despite Chartreux being rated 133 over hurdles I was never convinced he stayed 3 miles well and I think Brackloon High can beat him today. Best of luck everyone
Thought I'd take a a squizz at the Hereford 15:00, a hurdle over 26f on affected ground. The two I liked met last time out 25f at Wetherby where Waywood Princess beat Thorncliffer into third. The latter was three and four deep the whole race but still managed to get to the line well. The winner Waywood princess was dropped on the corner, but the long run in suited her down to the ground. she really motored the last half furlong. very nice win. She carried 9.7 that day with Challenor's claim, today with the claim, she'll carry 9. 9. I'm having trouble splitting the two. So dutching seems the way to go. Hereford 15:00. Thorncliffer-Waywood Princess. Win.
it going to be a hard race to win Isl. Those two of yours are nice juicy odds. I suppose the winner could come from anywhere.
The weather is so mild at the moment that the local track is still going to hold races until the end of Jan
Just in from Willie "Listen,Dannnnnooo, never mind willie muggins, (i'll see that chiefy fella later) 3 winners today laddo so lump on. Lambro runs in the 2 mile novice chase. He won here over 3f further last time but we are hoping that the testing ground will make this a test of stamina as ideally he would prefer a longer trip. On the plus side, he likes the track and these fences and handles heavy conditions. Hats And Heels makes her hurdling debut in the 2m 3f maiden hurdle. She jumps well and has some good bumper form. We are hoping that her age and sex allowance will make her competitive and we expect her to run very well. Un Atout makes his debut in the bumper. He has a lovely pedigree and is closely related to Sir Des Champs. This could be a very hot contest and it will be very testing for four year olds in the heavy ground. We are hoping he will handle the ground and give a good account of himself"
Lucky 15 at the well of south Wicked Wench La CAPRIOSA Ace Master Magic Millie and of course a large treble on the muggings sure fire winners at Naas
Morning chaps - a quick question .... is the transmission from ATR ok for you? Mine is acting up, 2 seconds of picture then 2 seconds of blank screen. Every other channel is fine, just ATR playing up!
13:00 Hereford - Orange Gizmo (This is a dreadfully weak affair, and had a bit e/w at 25/1 with PP (yes, PP!). Just checked again, and now 16's with them. With the yard now finding a bit of form, maybe this one can make the first three? Breeding seems OK for most aspects, i.e. distance, going, and course, although sharp, is galloping in nature).
Oddy The boy did well didnt he !!!!!!!! Think he got a bit tired on his last 2 though, to many pies i think,, will be having a word !!!!
Good day Cyc! No, not a thing for Dortmund (where dat den?). On your selections for the slog, think you've got it right, although Mr.Redwood might improve. Thought I'd stick with an e/w on that first race, which is a doleful affair.
