"Eric Abidal is a free transfer target for both Liverpool and Manchester City as he approaches the end of his Barcelona contract. The France international's current deal is scheduled to expire at the end of the season and he is now entitled to speak to other clubs about a summer move. Barcelona have offered him a two-year contract extension, but with a number of major European clubs interested, the defender has asked for time to think about his future, reports L'Equipe. AC Milan have already confirmed they are ready to hand the 32-year-old a three-year deal, but there is also interest from England. Liverpool and Manchester City have apparently made Abidal aware they are keen, although they have not yet made formal offers. Both clubs signed players - Jose Enrique and Gael Clichy - who play in the Barca star's preferred position of left-back last summer, but the chance to bring in an experienced international who can cover across the back four is still an attractive prospect to them. Dont know if anyone saw the goss that demba ba has a 10m release clause yesterday but Harry Redknapps gone even further and suggested that his release clasue is somewhere around 5m ! For that amount i doubt very much we would be in a position to sign him, Arsenal could do with a back up for RVP and are in the champions league, spurs look set to be top 4 this year again & can do with someone to back up adebayor, hell even chelsea could do with him. If we had a chance i'd jump all over this if even only till the end of the season at that point maybe we could consider reselling for a profit seeing as his knee is supposidly a worry. Th only way i culd see him failing to go to a champions league club is the fact hed probably want a decent length contract which the top clubs might feel abit uneasy about.
Cant see that happening ! maybe using us as a bargaining tool with Arsenal as we know there in for him, thats been confirmed & there in he champions league. Not sure if cologne were in the earlier stages of the champions league which would render him ineligble for the latter stages, i dont think they were so if he were to leave in Jan surely it would be to a team in the Euro Cup i would have thought.
i made up that suarez rumour.... said that the min i read the mum rubbish. Ba is going nowhere unless a real team comes in with a long contract for big money. he's dodgy as hell (like say the old ronaldo) those knees sound sincerely a probelm. podolski is a strong rumour it seems but he's a gy who misses the target, a lot... the cup tie thing doesn't work that way betw... if you play cl you are cupited for all.. if you play euro cup you can play cl though... podolski doesn't fit the mould either though... i'm thinking henderson as an example of said mould.
when i say Euro cup i mean champions league, not UEFA cup. I still call the champs league the european cup, sorry for the confusion there.
ok, i get you. I would agree if podolski is moving he would be looking for the best move possible which includes CL football. The thing is he's not that young, has a history of some injuries and I'm not sure what would attract him to anfield bar cash. Thats not to say i know his character merely a generalisation of all footballers until proved otherwise. Mertesaker would sell him on arsenal but then he'd have played with hamman in the past so... who knows really. the time to buy was when he left bayern not now.
If he did leave, at least 40 million for him, doubling what we paid almost. Don't see it though, this type of thing he can attach himself to the club for backing him when they could have just thrown him under the bus. Ya, same with Podolski but I have a sneaky feeling Arsenal might get him.
