I wouldn't say Beckford was awful today - just average. On the wing he looked a bit lost and never did the defensive side of the job that his position requires. When we went two up top, he looked a bit better and showed some decent touches but there wasn't anything really for him to get his teeth into in terms of balls in behind that he could run onto. If we're gonna talk about his performance today, then we have certainly seen worse from him but if we're gonna judge him on what he's done throughout his LCFC career, then you cannot argue that it has been disappointing to say the least. Yes he hasn't had the best service but he also hasn't helped himself with his attitude. We're not expecting him to run around like a headless chicken chasing down defenders for 90 minutes because we know that isn't his game. But we do expect a certain level of commitment and things like jumping for headers (we're not saying he has to win them all but at least challenge and make it hard for the defenders) and things like not tracking back when he's supposed to. If he isn't scoring and isn't in form, then he offers nothing. Maybe you could say he isn't getting service that suits him and when we bolster the midfield, it might suit him better but if that is to be the case, then he needs to be in the side and if that is to happen, then we know Nigel requires a level of work rate from his players and Jermaine currently doesn't meet those levels so if he really wants to be successful at this club and wants to get himself back into the side to give him the chance to do what he does best, then it's no secret that that particular aspect of his game will have to increase to suit the needs of the manager and team. You never know, maybe the signing of Sharp may give him a kick to up it. As for the rest of the team, we were solid today - bar a shaky start when we were rescued by Kasper and it was a much needed clean sheet as well. Mills and Tunchev looked like they built up a good understanding as the game went on and the formers distribution seems to be improving now. Danns was probably my MOTM as he was a constant threat wherever he played. A replay isn't ideal but we'll go into it with a good chance of progressing and given the next game after that is on a Monday rather than Saturday, I think we can cope with the extra match.
Aaron McLean doesn't score many for us but chases down lost causes all the time. NP liked his attitude and other attributes he brought to the team even when not scoring. Beckford will need to get the idea into his head that if he isn't banging in the goals he has to offer something else to the team. The shame is the £3m you paid (is that correct) could be used on better, hungrier players. Don't forget he'll be on a decent wage. We've seen this before with the likes of Bullard.
proud, i think you see a diff player in wellens than alot of the rest of us do, he is bloody awful, in fact apart from danns, most of our midfield is s***e. so how an earth can beckford and nugent even expect to score, with the rubbish service they are getting at the min. believe me, listening to the game on radion blue tint, is very diff from actually being there, and seeing what beckford is trying to do,tho it has to be said, not always to the best results. also seeing how many of the wellens passes are still ending up with an oposition player. and yet again the powder puff gallagher was a passenger, cos it was a battling sort of game, and he dosnt want to head or tackle, just take corners and free kicks. well im sorry thats just not good enough............
I agree, but Wellens bossed the midfield when he came on yesterday and put some very neat passes out to out wings.
We cannot keep using Beckford as a scapegoat for poor midfield performances. He wasn't good yesterday but for those that were there..... King and Gallagher absolutely shocking the pair of them. You cannot score if you don't create chances.
Nugent was a threat yesterday, and had 2 brilliant headers - 1 hitting the bar and the second an excellent save by Camp. But he also made the miss of the match - even easier than Dyers chance, when he lobbed Camp and put it wide. Beckford wasnt at the races yesterday, and still doesnt look as though he wants to be. Wellens looked better when he came on, but not that great AKCJ. Kasper, Tunch and Danns were exceptional yesterday. Dyer threatened every time he got the ball and could/should have covered himself in glory - but after Kaspers first 20 mins, we should already have been 3-4 nil up by then.
Here, here. Tunch is a LCFC hero, 1 because he´s got the abillity but also because the man is a fighter & not a quiter. He deserves a good crack of the whip so he can show what he can do. Chuffed for him.
yep agree about tunch proud, a real class act, and have to agree also with AKCJ to a certain extent about wellens looking better than he has of late, but to be fair that wouldn't be very hard, as he has had a shocker for most of the season up to now..............
