Bent's an excellent finisher and would offer the option of an early ball on the counter. However he doesn't add anything when he doesn't score, either his workrate's poor or he ends up in the wrong positions and doesn't get in the box in time for the chances. With Carroll not being the hardest working player either and Bent's preference to play up top on his own in a hoofball counter attacking team, I can't see this being a good idea.
This can't be a serious story surely. Think I'd rather we went back for Torres than spend crazy money on Bent.....and that's saying something. Undeniablly a decent finisher (and admittedly we are desperate for a player who can do that) Bent has little else to his game and at his age I just can't see the rational for paying so much for him. This makes as much sense as paying 50 mill for Carroll and Downing....oh wait a minute.....
For anything around £10mil I'd probably take him as he has the ability to stick the ball in the net - something we've really missed his year. However anything over that would be a waste if you ask me.
Listening to talkSPORT at the moment and they were talking about the Bent to Liverpool rumour and a Midlands-based journo said that McLeish said, again, that Bent isn't leaving. McLeish has also said that he has spoken to Kenny and Kenny has said that there is no interest in Bent from Liverpool.
