I find threads on greatest artists/films hilarious because there are always a handful of people who try to out indie each other by mentioning obscure stuff just for the sake of it. Granted, there are some great unknown films out there, but some of them are just a load of pretentious ****e.

Not aimed at anyone in particular, just popped into my head while reading through the thread.

I really like this film even if the dog fighting scene's are a bit too much at times

Isn't that generally what happens with a lot of stuff though? For every good film there's hundreds of utterly **** ones , same with bands, tv shows, pieces of art etc.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Inception or the Dark Knight (Heath Ledger) yet

Edit: I'm not saying they are the best of all time. Just surprised they haven't been mentioned in peoples lists.

I agree, but usually on forums it's threads about music and films that pop up most often, which is what I was getting at.

This thread hasn't had any of that in 4 pages though, and theres another film thread without any of it either so I guess it just doesn't happen here. You're right though, there are some people out there who refuse to admit that sometimes blockbusters are fantastic films and not all obscure soviet historical dramas from the 30s are better.

    <ok>

Saving Private Ryan...gets the adrenaline running with the sound system on full blow.
Schindler's list is a very good shout, never got around to watching it till a couple of years ago, brilliant film.

    Newer films:
    Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
    Warrior
    Dark knight

Most of Tom Hanks' movies are awesome, mostly.

Don't mention that to Skalpel <whistle>

I'm surprised no one on here has been like that yet. Always one idiot who refuses to watch blockbusters even though there is some genuinely good ones at times.

You mean you don't. I am genuinely shocked <laugh>.

I agree to an extent with what your saying but I still think it was very well executed.

Agreed. Some real classics such as:

    La Vita e Bella
    Y Tu Mama Tambien
    Princess Mononoke
    13 Assassins
    Un Prophete
    Waltz With Bashir
    Mesrine
    Amores Perros
    Sympathy for Mr Vengeance
    Oldboy
    Gomorrah
    Shichinin no Samurai
    District 9
    All About Lily Chou Chou
    Ciudad de Deus
    La Mala Educacion
    Tetsuo: The Iron Man
    Audition
    Das Lieben der Anderen

Those are the ones I can think of right now, it would seem I particularly like Japanese films judging by this list.

    Y Tu Mama Tambien
    13 Assassins
    Oldboy
    [REC]
    Battle Royale

Those are the only world cinema films I can remember watching and they are all great, I might have to check out some of the others that have been mentioned.

    Also, Goodfellas.
