Can I actually hijack this thread and ask where is good to live other than Jesmond? Currently a first year, but we are only starting to look for a place now, which probably means the only ones left in Jesmond are rip-offs, so if anyone has a recommendation it would be appreciated. <ok>

I can vouch for Heaton, lived there (not as a student though) for a couple of years, have friends in the area in student houses which seem reasonable. 5 minute bus to town, nearby pubs, takeaways, supermarkets (Sainsburys or Morrisons depending on which end of Heaton), very studenty area in parts.

had mates in the joint newcastle/northumbria ones in 1st year - victoria halls - and have had mates in camden court

was a bit hit and miss, nice place, all en suite iirc (camden was a wet room though instead of a bathroom) but it seemed like there was a dodgy (weirdo) person in every flat

I moved from elsewhere to study at Newcastle (still doing so).. Best descision ever, one of if not the best night-life for students.. Proven by the amount of people that come here from London to study.. Newcastle Uni is full of them.
The variety of nightlife is appealing with about every scene catered for!!

Plus prices like 3 trebles for a fiver, you can't go wrong.

The best thing is everyone is very friendly and there are students everywhere!!

Not been back for a while other than match days, my missus has bought us tickets for Toon v Makems & couple of nights in a hotel in town, really looking forward to it. Any suggestions for dinner & good night on the Friday then beer etc before & after the game on Saturday?

Byker and Heaton won't be so hard on the pocket and you could even go over the river to Gateshead. Just a few minutes away.

Turned down a place at Newcastle uni to go to Leeds at the start of the relegation season. It was a more prestigious course and at the time I felt I needed to somewhere I hadn't been before after spending a lot of time in Newcastle seeing family (dad's from Byker/Kenton and mum from Consett).

Leeds was great but I still loved heading to Newcastle even when there wasn't a match on and managed to convert my girlfriend into a toon fan. I don't know what it is about the place but I get a spring in my step and a stupid grin on my face as soon as I get off the train. My work placement in Leeds finishes in May, I've got a bit of cash saved and we'd both love to move up but she got a job straight out of uni in Sheffield and wants to stick it out for a while, bit of a pain really. What we do for love, eh?

Couple of mates used to live in Sandyford and it was great for walking to games and a stroll around the Deen but it was a pretty quiet area compared to living in Hyde Park in Leeds, which to be fair was like living in The Young Ones . My dad's from Kenton and it's alright there, just seems like a more family/grown up orientated area. I'd love to get a flat in one of the converted warehouses near the quay side if money was no object I'd buy one of those lovely houses on St Thomas Crescent.

First year you don't actually specialise in your degree (ie marketing) so you do a lot of different topics like finance, hr etc. 2nd and particularly 4th year (after placement) is when you get the main marketing focus. No exams just coursework so dunno whether that is the kind of thing you are into!

One of the key things I would say is great is the management team for the Marketing Management course. David Hart (course leader/director) is awesome; really gets your interest flowing in specific areas of marketing like buyer behaviour etc.

Overall, definitely recommend. Probably mostly for the amazing social scene and culture of Newcastle but the Uni is definitely not bad as far as they go! Btw, if you get 3 A's (or the same for whatever Belgium has) you get a bonus of £2k when you arrive...that is a lot of Newcastle pints!

Send me a message if you need any other advice bud.

She bought me FIFA 12 the day it came out - I think that's pretty much a legally binding contract for me to stay with her...

For me the best halls are Camden Court, Glenmara or Quay point. However they are all pretty good. Think I had to pick 5 before I went never got any of them. Ended up in Stephenson Building, yet was still awesome. Theres like 6 in each flat and 4 flats on a floor, and think I got on with everyone on the floor, infact still with some of them now!

Maybe stay away from Claude Gibb its all inclusive so you get meals, but theres no real communial area apart from the canteen so its harder to meet people at first. But know people who lived there who still love it!
