I understand that Bond and Allen are at the Wycombe Wanderers v Huddersfield game tonight. They can only be there to watch one player, namely Jordan Rhodes. He's 21 and has already scored something like 21 goals this season, so far. I'm not ITK, but I reckon we'll be making a bid for him.
5 goals tonight 27 for the season. Certainly putting on a show for the scouts! They reckon 8 prem clubs are being represented at that game.
He'd count as homegrown too, despite representing Scotland at international level. I wonder how much he'll go for?
I suggested a bid for Rhodes a couple of months back, and he's certainly looking like a Premier League-quality striker at the moment.
Our track record with players from the third tier (or below) so far is... Success at Spurs: Simon Davies, Michael Dawson Success elsewhere: Bobby Zamora, Matthew Etherington ****e: Gary Doherty, Anthony Gardner, Andy Reid
Zamora who for some reason didn't fit. Gardener was always injured so hard to tell. The rest were given chances but didn't quite shine.
Dawson and Reid were more or less straight into the team, Davies made his debut about three months after signing, Doherty about six months, Gardner a year, whilst Zamora and Etherington never really featured - with Zamora used as a makeweight in the deal to bring Defoe to WHL in the following Transfer Window.
Zamora was a lower-league predator. He couldn't cut it in the Premier League playing in the same style and it took him a while to adjust his game. I don't think that he gets enough credit for his transformation, to be honest. He could've ended up Huckerby-ing it, never being good enough for the Prem, while always looking too good for the Championship.
I think he will be ok but not as spectacular as he is looking..the type of player that ends up at a West Ham,charlton or crystal palace...ive seen the lad play a few times as im from Huddersfield...really i find the third tier of english football to be quite poor in basic quality.
We're bigger and better than players at this level, with all due respect to Mr.Rhodes. I he's happy being 3rd choice striker, though I've no complaints.
Pav is- hopefully- finally on his way this window. Frankly, I could give a monkey's how much we get for him as he has had FAR too many opportunities to impress yet has done nothing more than to confirm what we suspected all along: He was a rushed last-minute panic-buy to 'replace' Berbatov. At least this Rhodes lad would put in some effort and really fight for his place.
He has only come to everyones attention due to his goals..these goals are scored due to him being a regular starter in the Huddersfield team...however if we bought him as like you say TLTHP, as a 3rd choice striker....then he will be coming on as a 20 minute sub, injuries or maybe even starting the odd match....this means he wont score the golas hes scoring now...and the way this works is that we will then see him as a failure due to him not really scoring..i doubt he would be a success for us...plus his hard work and graft isnt what is getting him headlines
I would prefer Rhodes to damiao, he seems to much of a risk, who knows he could turn out like caroll!
Doesn't look like we're interested, but I'd agree with Lidls on this one. He may or may not make it, but his current record isn't indicative of either outcome.
Harry has already stated that he won't be going for Rhodes right now unless he can improve the team immediately.
