Ah, but in those days you could take a players legs straight from under him, provided you happened to also get a slight contact with the ball. Football is almost a non-contact sport compared to how it was then!

And not just broken legs, from an era when footballers were tough. Ronaldo take note.

    From Wiki

"Named FWA Footballer of the Year for 1956, Trautmann entered football folklore with his performance in the 1956 FA (Football Association) Cup Final. With 17 minutes of the match remaining Trautmann suffered a serious injury after diving at the feet of Birmingham City's Peter Murphy. Despite his injury he continued to play, making crucial saves to preserve his team's 3–1 lead. His neck was noticeably crooked as he collected his winner's medal; three days later an X-ray revealed it to be broken."

team Saints Vs Coventry: Bialkowski. Harding, Martin, Hooiveld, Fox. Hammond, Cork, Schneiderlin, Ward-Prowse. Lallana, Doble reasonably strong, but with a youthful bench Kelvin Davis, Lee Holmes, Jonathan Forte, Ben Reeves, Luke Shaw, Jack Stephens, Sam Hoskins

Doble starts and Dan Harding at right back - 4 CM's starting presumably in a diamond and Lallana up front

I can see a couple of the youngsters coming on in a very youthful looking bench

Surprised to see Doble getting a start. He doesn't appear to have done much during his loan spells, and he's only a few weeks short of his 21st birthday, so he's not a real youngster any more. But hey, good luck to him.

Honestly don't like the look of our attacking options with only Doble our real striker, and even then it doesn't appear that he has done much for other loan clubs, but hey we'll see what happens

Simple answer is we have no one else really, we don't want to risk all our first teamers and we have no real striker back up.
Also worries me why are we playing Cork,Hammond and Morgan. Should be resting at least one just incase of injury.

Slightly off topic but why was there only 14 thousand fans at the west midlands derby today, I thought it would of been a full house!

I hope Connolly has not picked up another knock. Surprised to not see him in the squad. Looks like Butterfield is also injured. The medical staff are going to earn there money leading up to the Forest game

i thought that but who would play RM? Ward-Prowse isnt going to play out of position, and Hammond/Schneiderlin would be well out of their depth! I suppose we find out soon enough at KO

Forte? He is on the bench after all.

And if we wanted to give youth a go, I'd have thought Hoskins or Sinclair or Curtis would have been worth a go ahead of Doble.
