Celtic have almost zero debt and are owned by a billionaire so we wont sell him on the cheap. If you want him you'll have to pay the going rate.

ps It's good to see the patronising views about Scottish football are alive and well. I've been hearing them for as long as I can remember, even when Celtic and Rangers were regularly going far in Europe under O'Neill and Smith.

pps Hooiveld was a flop in the SPL <ok>

that talk of the big 2 joining the EPL, no offence intended but you'd both be relagated then be bottom half the championship
and if it was ever to happen, surely both clubs would have to start at the bottom of the english leagues, which would be huge losses for both clubs

    Yeah sure, whatever pal.

We can beat the likes of AC Milan and Barcelona while playing in the SPL but we couldn't beat the likes of Wigan, Bolton, QPR or Swansea with 60,000 crowds and tens of millions of Sky money. <doh>

As for getting Commons on the cheap. If there's one thing our Board is good at it's getting maximum value for our players. This is a board who got £1.75m for Craig "straw legs" Beattie FFS! And you think you can get Commons for £1 - £1.5m <laugh>

you wouldnt be getting 60000 crowds @ conference level, you wouldnt be getting millions in tv revenue, and you wouldnt have any international players at that level

Do we really need to recite the Scotland v England argument here?

We wouldn't be starting at the bottom. If Sky had their way we would simply replace two of the relegated teams from the EPL with one coming up from the Championship.

Who do you think Sky would rather have broadcast round the world? Celtic who have a huge fan base in America, Canada, Australia etc. or Southampton or Wigan or WBA?

Celtic probably have more fans in America than you have in England.

It would appear so. I remember Commons doing well at Derby.

As Dan said I know he is older than Philips etc. but perhaps they are holding out for more.

What on earth has that got to do with anything? I don't recall anyone saying that we're Man Utd.

My personal view is that without European football each season, Celtic and Rangers would be firmly amongst the Bolton's and the Wigan's and the Blackburn's - and thus would be doing well to avoid relegation each season.

Any way, I'd rather have Matt Phillips than Commons.

I actually came on here to see if there had been any further developments and give my opinion on Commons but, as often happens, was faced with the usual patronising and insulting comments about Scottish football.

Anyway, putting that aside, I would say to you what the Derby fans said to us. You get one good season out of him then he goes off the boil. Then, when his contract is nearing an end, he picks up again to either get a new deal or to move on for a bigger wage.

There's no doubt he's a good player: he can beat players, he can play on both sides of the park and he can certainly finish. The downside is his attitude, his fitness and his apparent inability to recover from injury when things get tough.

Would we sell? I reckon so but you wont be getting him for some ridiculously low figure. As I said earlier, we have little debt and have no need to sell to keep the wolf from the door unlike our cousins across the city. We do, however, have a better player in James Forrest as well as a host of other midfielders so Commons wouldn't be a great loss if we sold him.

In football, as much as anything else, it seems to be becoming a national English pastime to bash the Scots (and vice versa). Look, because someone is playing in a supposed 'inferior' league does NOT mean that they are ****e.
