I'll support Newcastle whatever, always have done, always will - but having criticised first Chelsea and then City I'd feel a little hypocritical if a sugar daddy did come in for us.

Tottenham are the perfect example - they bought young, exciting players (Bale, Lennon, Huddleston, Modric) and have seen their stock rise and are genuinely Champions League contenders. They've not spent hundreds of millions and have stood strong when they know they've got a top player. We will, hopefully, do the same in the future.

The reason I don't want to be bought up by a bottomless pit of cash is because regardless of what people say, a little bit of our soul would go with it...My favourite season (though this one has got to be up there) was our one in the Championship. We were winning week in week out with players who wanted to be at our club and who wanted success for us, not because they were offered 6 figure sums each week!

If we were to ever be taken over by billionaires i would still want to continue our policy of young players. Would just mean we could get better younguns. Won't believe it till i see it though

As an observer the statement above seems to be a vein throughout this thread.

I just wonder after all the daft things MA did and the mistakes he made, is your current fantastic form/team etc., down to a bit of good luck for him. He certainly ran out of bad luck. But this time things just seemed to fall into place and Pardew maybe can't believe it either. Long may it last for you.

This, time we had some silverware, love the club & think we're heading in the right direction but would love to see us win something after the disappointment of coming so close in the 90's

Using those statistics we've spent less than 90 million net since the start of the PL.
Statistics can be used in many ways. What you don't know is what they've spent in wages, add ons (bonuses, signing on etc), agent fees and other areas. Then running costs of the club versus their income.
10 million a season spend on players is high considering one champions league qualification and a couple of cups.
Looking at our figures since Ashley arrived we've made circa £40 million from player sales.
Supposing we never sold key players such as Bassong, Carroll, Enrique Etc; but still signed the players we did during Ashley's reign that would add on £70m to the running total. We would be at a similar level to Tottenhams 200m net spend.
Most people know we almost went bust during Shepherds tenure and we had multiple champions league qualifications, and for ten years 10-15,000 more seat sales per game.

Despite all the money Citeh have available to them, i believe they have spent a huge amount on young up coming talent and have one of if not the best youth set ups in the country
