Is it anything as ludicrous as O'Shea's?

And before you start, I know Chelsea pay silly money, but O'Shea must have thought he'd won the lottery!

I would say he will be on about 65 - 70k a week. Thats just a rough guess though.

I do honestly doubt JOS is on more than 50, this 80k a week is nonsense.

I'm not so sure. Our wage bill in 2009/10 was £130m for the year. Our 1st team squad last season was around 26 players, which is about £5m a player. After Employers NI and all that guff that probably still makes an average wage for the squad of about £85-90k a week, with players like Rooney on lots more, but players like Gibson on a lot less. So it's not inconceivable that O'Shea ended up on £75-£80k a week.

Although I think Chelsea win it with their £172m bill over about 20 players. Based on the same maths, that means the Chelsea squad has an average salary of almost £150k a week! Makes Rooney's £160k a week seem positively reasonable...

I thought I'd diffused the possibility of getting a dig about that Swarbs you berk<grr><laugh>

Torres is on appx £175k, Terry and lampard £155k...Drogba £120 and it goes down from there...

I thought Rooney was on circa £250k?

Seriously if JOS is on more than 50k a week the worlds gone mad. I see how it is possible, but the logic is ridulous. To pay a non key player footballer that much is ridiulous.

Rooney is on 180k or 200k. I remember Gill saying he will get a massive deal and can't be bettered else where, so are we talking plus 200k?

I can't believe we are spending 200k plus on such a average player. There is about 20 other strikers who are better than Wayne out there we could get on a cheaper and better wage.

I have to agree, it is ridiculous money, but for the amount of merchandise/sponsorship cash he brings in it makes some business sense.

£250k a week if you read the Sun. £175k if you read any other source. And £175k far more believable. Can't imagine Chavski would have only offered Torres £175k if he knew Rooney was on almost 50% more.

Either way it's a ridiculously large amount!

    lol who reads the sun?
If people are prepared to pay that much, then it will always be a load of money. It's football. I think it would of been fitting if he got the 200K last season when he was performing really well, not on a season where he's not shone so much. Ah well.
