I would love to see us do well in the cup, but the second it starts to effect our league form I will be hoping we get knocked out. Thing is, sometimes it works the other way to. A great way to build up some confidence if things aren't going as planned in the League. I think we are pretty safe in the PL now, 4 or 5 more wins will be enough. Plenty of winnable games left in which to achieve that.

For me it`s all about survival, if we can field a reserve 11 against Burnley and nick a win then brilliant, but we are not going to win the bloody thing.. The TV money is not vital this season either...
this. I worry that if we get anywhere in the cup there'll be pressure to start fielding a better team for tougher draws. We already run the furthest of any premier league side, we don't need anymore more physical stress on the guys.
Lawro's backing us 2-0 on the BBC website... Interestingly he's assuming we'll rotate again with a bunch of youngsters on the fringe eager to impress. Frankly I don't think Burnley is an easy win regardless of what team we put out. Just hope it's not a draw and replay.
Yes please! Been a while, why not? The fact that people think it's pointless is rather sad, but I guess that's just old me.
Twenty years since our last real run in the cup, the romantic in me would love a cup run. That game against Sunderland was the last time I cried at the end of a match, how did we not get to Wembley?? I loved the cup then and I still do now, it's a great competition. Sadly (and I hate saying this), a run would probably be bad for us. Getting through the first couple of games could be good for confidence (not that it's low now), but more than that would be extra games we can do without. Let's face it, we're not going to win it and would be very unlikely to get to the final. We've a bigger prize to aim for this season, and all attention needs to remain on that.
You load of doom and gloom mongers! Feel the romance of the cup inside your cold hearts! Who says we cannot win it? Look at some of the teams that have gone close recently and anything is possible! (Cardiff, Stoke, Portsmouth for Christ's sake!) You just need a lucky draw out of the hat and for the big teams to get each other so they get whittled down. Apart from Man City and Tottenham is there anybody else who we have really feared so far this season? Some of my best childhood memories come from wins in the FA Cup against Manure, West Ham etc. I for one would love us to do well and lets face it - under Lambert it must surely be our finest opportunity to do so! He wont be around forever!
Lambert will make measured, appropriate changes to the team. It allows some of the lads that are suffering from all those matches at christmas a rest and allows some of the fringe players that haven't been given a proper whack a chance to impress. This match can only be good all round in my view We will try and win the game in a sensible manner, but burnley won't be easy.
Now just let me think. When was the last time we were in this sort of situation? Oh, yes!, the Carling Cup and MK Dons. Can't really remember the details but I don't think it was a great confidence booster ......... I see this as no-win myself. If PL can conjure a win-win out of it he'll prove himself even more of a than we already think.
I hope PL plays an academy side, and they put in a good shift but lose. The magic of the cup is not lost on me, but realistically, considering the situation we are in, it's one of the last things we'd want. PL will know that and rotate his squad accordingly.
