Are we going to make a game of it against West Bromwich Albion, or are we going to field basically a second string side and sacrifice this game for the benefit of our league ambitions?

How much would the club gain financially by getting into the next round anyway, and indeed what a massive task it would be to win at WBA in any given situation?

Are we going to wimp it, or act with spunk and determination, and raise our status even higher, that is the question?

It appears probable that city could win over two games against Crystal Palace hopefully, and then expected to lose heavily against probably Manchester City, on a special day for our beloved club.

I've no doubt whatever side Malky picks will give it everything they've got. Personally, I'd quite happily see a make-shift/development team put out v WBA as out of the next 2, Palace is far more important.

In the running for promotion, a league cup semi final, and now the FA Cup. A season ago I'd have said keep the focus on the main prize (promotion), but I get the impression that the new regime really does take one game at a time and tries to win it regardless of what competition it is. I'm sure MM will try to see the big picture and I'm happy for him to play it as he sees fit.

Not sure we'll get past the Baggies, but they do have a bit of an injury crisis just now. So you never know. I think a draw would be the worst result, but as I said earlier, I'm sure the current squad would even take that in their stride.

correct musty, the winners go into the Europa League. If the winners have already qualified for Europe through the Prem, the CC place goes to the next in line in the Prem

I said elsewhere, a 50 - 50 split and young guns on the bench.

    Heaton
    Blake Gerrard Hudson Naylor
    Conway Kiss McPhail Ralls Cowie
    Gustede

Parish on the bench with Earnie, gunnar, Quinn and 3 youngsters (7 subs in the cup).

MM will want some continuity and to give fringe players a run out, but not those who won't at least make the bench in a league game. Some experience for the youngsters though not necessarily starting.

The FA Cup runner-up would qualify (if applicable) but not the Carling Cup

West Brom have injury probs, taken from bbc.
West Brom could be without eight first-team regulars against Cardiff City.

Chris Brunt (ankle), Zoltan Gera (knee), Shane Long (back), Steven Reid, Jonas Olsson (calf), Jerome Thomas (groin), James Morrison (hamstring) and Youssouf Mulumbu (groin) are doubtful.

Goodluck today . League & FA Cup with the Championship silverware would make quite a little treble

    Cheers Breezey.

However, I would take an exit from this today, fielding a second string team, so we can focus on Palace next week and the most important issue of getting to the Prem to renew local "friendships" next season.

I wouldn't bet against any line up Malky or Rodgers puts out these days . Both are getting the absolute best out of there players & those players are playing there hearts out . I don't think any Cardiff or Swansea fan could have guessed how well they'd be doing come the New Year but we;ll both are playing

If we get a result today with that lineup, we'll walk the bloody league with our first team. <doh>

Looks like Tuesday is Malky's big push and who could blame him. Still think the Donny away game next week is very important - in theory, we could go top. <yikes>

I do like the thought of Earnie starting against West Brom. When he left us for them in the Prem, he was on a high, then Robson became manager and in my opinion treated Earnie like ****. I remember that season Robbo would hardly ever start him and brought him on reluctantly as sub more often than not.

If I remember correctly, Earnie still finished the season their top scorer by a mile. Glad Robbo was eventually shown the door.

    Here you go H.

    01 Foster
    18 Jara
    20 Shorey
    23 McAuley
    25 Dawson
    28 Jones
    07 Morrison
    17 Dorrans
    29 Thorne
    24 Odemwingie
    31 Cox

He was top scorer Sparkey, including a hat-trick in about 17 mins, off the bench. He scored most goals coming on as he hardly started. Robson was interviewed shortly after the hat-trick and bemoaning the fact that he didn't have any strikers. He did, he just never played them.
