Ex ITV man and brilliant blogger James Allen is returning to British broadcasting to take over from David Croft as the head of BBC Radio 5 Live's f1 team. This is great news. Allen clearly knows his stuff and regardless of other people's opinions I thought he was a perfectly fine commentator/contributor with ITV. It will certainly give an air of real professionalism and knowledge to 5 Live's F1 output now. As he has shown in his blogs he really knows all the goings on in the sport and with this capture, the BBC have made an even bigger mockery of the horrific and juvenile Sky lineup.

You can read what Allen has to say about his new role below

Im sure some wont be happy with this, but i personally dont have an issue with Allen. Just remember they could have given it to Legard.

Jonathan Legard was a good radio commentator as far as I can recall. It just never worked for him on tv.

You know Cosi, I was never bothered by Legard until you brought it up on Muzz606 (or was it the beeb pages?).

Allen has said on his blog that he will still do it. :D
He's also still going to do his quali and race reports for Australian coverage. Great to hear.

Will be strange to not hear Brundle but it should be a good blend between him and Coulthard.

The 2012 Ferrari is also faster than it's predecessor (confirmed by reliable source).

The last 2 seasons Mclaren said something similar but when it came down to first testing they said they had problems. I wonder if they have created a good car from the start this time?

I also wonder what this innovative solution they will add for the first gp will be?

Forza: that translation is fascinating, especially when it mentions "tax regulations" and "the terminal on the floor of the fund"! (One wonders, is this a fund Bernie has an interest in and may prefer to keep tucked away out of sight of the British Inland Revenue?!).
But McLaren fans should be heartened to know that they have at last decided to shorten the wheelbase of their car: this is something others may know I have 'banged on about' as ill-conceived ever since its introduction.

CGen: I will eat my hat if the RB8 turns out to be slower than its predecessor. Although I do not think Vettel will ever find it quite so easy to so totally dominate a season again, Newey only does 'forward', 'fast forward', and 'very fast forward'…

Mclaren will probably start slow, they replaced their key gremlin under Newey (unreliability) with a slow-burning development cycle, which has meant they can't hook it up from the very start and haven't really been on the pace of the more forward-thinking Red Bull since 2009.
That said, shorter wheelbase I've heard lots about on this forum so I'm intrigued there. <ok>

Also interesting new take on Senna -> Williams:

The fact that he's talking about a third-driver role makes me question if he's even in the running at all.

#f1 Bit of a fuss in Brazil as @eikebatista, the CEO of Oil company OGX and a Bruno Senna sponsor, tweeted that he's driving for Williams..

Probably BS but you never know. :)

The third driver stuff is about a month out of date and to me sounds like the response to a direct question.

Okay am I the only person who was utterly unable to read that article about McLaren? Can anyone... erm... translate? for me? And has anyone other McLaren fan been worried about these rumours of a massive braindrain from McLaren to Ferrari?
